Creaking tailgate

I've noticed that in the last few weeks my rear tailgate is making an annoying creaking noise when I go over speed bumps etc at low speed. Sounds like plastic creaking...

At least, I assume it's the tailgate...

Has anyone else had this and solved it? L319 D4 HSE

You could try this for starters, although I don't know if RRS tailgate is same type of set up as D3, there are some plastic blocks that centre the upper tailgate, on each side, get the butler to put a dab of grease on them and see if noise stops. Wink

I fired the Butler ages ago.

It's not the rubber stoppers, it sounds like the creak of the type of plastic that they use on the lower tailgate piece. I need to get my wife to drive the car through the village with me in the boot listening for the culprit.

I'm sure she'd probably like that, treating me like a dog.... Sheep L319 D4 HSE

Rear tailgate rattle is one of our top customer complaints at the moment on ageing RRS vehicles. Unfortunately if the customer has a tendancy to slam the tailgate there is a chance that part of the tailgate latch mechanism can break off. This will not stop the lock from functioning, but it does allow the small amount of freeplay required to create the creak you are describing.

I think a visit to your stealers is required. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Re: Creaking tailgate

Ref -; Creaking Tailgate.

Problem has been noted on some vehicles as emanating from tailgate strut. To illiminate this as a potential source of the creak, lubricate top/ bottom fixing points of damper along with the strut with a PTFE lubricant. If this application is successful the damper will require replacement, as the lubricant is only a temporary fix.

Another potential area that could create a creak are the rear interior quarter panel spring steel clips not fixing correctly to the body. If a clip has "popped" out the result is for the clip to abrade the fixing point during torsional flexing of the body shell i.e by travelling over rough or bumpy surfaces.

Hope this info helps
