how to hardwire into fuse box

Can anyone point me to a guide or give me basic instructions how to add equipment to the fuse box?

I see there is a piggy back thingy you can buy, looks very easy but I'd rather do it properly if possible... unless of course this piggy back /adding to an existing fuse is proven to be 100% safe and reliable... Its only to hardwire a 12v to 5v converter for a fixed phone charger.

I was considering (as per previous post) to wire directly behind the cigarette lighter! this is still an option if experts on here think it will be ok?

I added a piggy back fuse (from Amazon) last weekend to run my dash cam.

Easier than going in under the lighter and no wires to splice/ cut.

Definitely easier it insert when the glove box is pulled down to access the fuse box.

I've used piggyback fuses for years, never had one with an issue if designed as used.
The cameras are really low power, and with its own fuse, is safer than cutting into existing wiring. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Ok, piggy back it is then Thumbs Up

Our fuses are Mini aren't they? Not micro?

I guess I'll go off 52 ciggy lighter like in that post, as a fixed car charger will only be used when ignition is on.

Cheers

On an 07 it's Mini Thumbs Up

Fuse 58 wakes up when you unlock the car as its the entertainment system. But the ciggy fuse would be fine as well. Bodsys Brake Bible

I've got all my bits to have a go at this now, just wondered if anyone can advise a good earth on/near the fuse box?

Thanks

Open the panel which is part of the bonnet release handle. Behind this panel you will see 3/4 bolts to the chassis with black wires - Any bolt should do the trick.

Thanks MNK, I think I know the ones you mean, but I'm talking about the interior fuse box in this case, apologies wasn't very clear.

As mentioned above, just means you need to run the neg wire down to it.
Or you can also use one of the silver screws that you can see when you drop the lower glovebox. That will work fine as well in this case. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible
