SVR Insurance

Hi

Has anybody from the UK managed to get an insurance quote on the SVR yet ?

A lot of online insurers will not quote due to the value of this vehicle - I have received £1223 from LandRover Insurance which seems high when I can insure a 5.0 litre supercharged Autobiography for around £600ish.

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Richard

Yes. £500-ish increase in the premium - a relatively small increase in the total premium for me though (house and my cars are all on the same policy), and the SVR will cost £40k more than my current MY12 Autobiography did.

I pay an awful lot in insurance, but do sleep well at night.

Have you an SVR on order?

Low volume, high value, desirable vehicle. That's got "theft risk" written all over it in an insurance company's mind. The 5.0S/C AB is relatively common in comparison and not nearly as "steal to order" worthy. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I was hoping it wouldnt be a huge jump from the 5.0 AB sport. Does the SVR even come up as a option on say Compare the market?

Do LR insist on a separate Tracker in addition to InSecure? Very Happy

Hi - thanks for the replies so far.

You are correct that Confused.com does not show an SVR yet - so I wrote to the 6 companies who quoted lowest for a 5.0 supercharged to ask how they would rate/value/risk assess the SVR.

Only 2 of the companies bothered to respond - 1 of them is still talking to their underwriters for a decision - the other agreed they would rate it the same as the 5.0 supercharged - thus a quote of about £620 ! Only problem is that their quote is only valid for 45 days and my car will not arrive until at least May.

I will be putting my private plate on the car - so is it legal for me to insure the car in 45 days time so as to lock in the insurance quote (even though it won't be here for a few more months ?

Thanks
Rich

Theoretically you could insure an item that doesn't exist, and I dare say people claim for non existent items. In this case, unless you have a trade policy, you would need to inform the insurance company of the reg no of the car, but the DVLA are not going to allow you to place a reg plate on a non existing car!

Doesn't sound like Land Rover insurance is competitive and will try adding to my Admiral multi-car policy nearer delivery. If they can insure a 911 GT3 for £400, I hope the SVR will not be much more but with a huge question mark still over RRS security, it may well be. Mark

Hello PBob

I mentioned in my earlier message that I have a private plate to put on it - or does a vehicle need to receive a '15' plate before it gets swapped out for a private one anybody ?

I cannot see that there is any deception in my plan to insure the car early - the company have offered a price and I have chosen to take that offer even though there isn't anything physical for them to actually have any risk on.

Thanks
Rich

I'm pretty sure you can transfer a reg at first registration - just give the dealer the form if it is on retention.

I'm also pretty sure you can't insure something that you have no insurable interest in, certainly not a car that doesn't exist. Who's to say the premium doesn't come down in 45 days time? Little reason to suspect it will go up.

Indeed you can, you just give the form to the dealer before first registration and it goes on your personal plate straightaway. Mark
