Can anyone tell me how to replace the fuel cap release mech.?
I am hoping it is something easily done!

Got the same problem, spent ages at the petrol station trying to pry it open  If it doesnt scare you it isnt heavy enough

trying to force it open is likely to break the mechanism!

If I recall, there is a manual release cable located inside the boot behind the removable flap in the trim on the side of the boot space. Another issue can be that if you have the car set to lock the doors when you drive off, when you then stop and open your drivers door the other doors don't open (think this may be only on some model years) and it only releases the fuel flap if you then open all the doors with the key fob. Ha ha this made me laugh. picking my new RRS up tomorrow and i already downloadedthe on-line manual to check this so I dont get caught out if i need to fill up tomorrow Been there done that!
