Going for Australian lifestyle

Hello to fellas in Australia!

I've always wanted to live in Australia and for some weird reason it was my father's dream (it never came true for him though lol... poor guy). 2 years ago I had a real chance to study in University of New South Wales. I had the offer, the ticket and visa, but I faced some complications which I did not like at the time so I had to cancel the trip. Today, I am almost done with my studies in the U.K. Soon, it will be the time to look for a job, and once again I am seriously considering to move to Australia. I am not certain yet, but it is very likely that I will. I learned about its climate, economy and of course the nature. Climate and nature is probably the only reason I am considering this particular country. Although London is a great place to live, and I agree it is the financial hub in Europe a lot of deals come through here, local climate is just unbearable, no offence. The most annoying part is when it doesn't rain nor the sun is out - grey day in and day out Laughing We had 2 weeks of summer this year... Sometimes it is almost depressing... I haven't washed my car in 3 weeks now... it's been raining every 2 hours here.
Thus, I am going to Australia for about a month or maybe longer sometime in October - November. I would love to stay in the country for some time, travel around, meet new people get the taste of Australian lifestyle etc etc... Obviously, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne will be my primary places to visit. Perth on the west side is also of my interest. Since I will be travelling quite a bit, I am going to need a car. Now I would love to bring my RRS with me, but not sure about that (suggestions will be appreciated).
I saw some videos of guys offroading in Asutralia, and it looks just amazing. They are so lucky... they do not even realise it. Vadim A.

Vadim, i am currently dossing in the whitsundays, so feel free if you are up this way to buzz, i will pm you my contact details. I left just over 5 years ago and have not regretted it, Aussies are generally friendly, apart from the odd slight from the likes of BKHK on my English origin Wink

In regard to bringing your car, i assume you mean when you move permanently Whistle There are a number of companies that can transport from the UK, i looked at one of the RO/RO car transporter companies about 5 years ago and was quoted 1600 pounds for a Disco2, that was from Southampton, it takes about 6-10 weeks depending on their schedule for picking up new cars to send down under. The only thing i could not get through was the minefield of legislation, taxes and duties, as well as any changes needed to met Aussie Safety standards, so start researching now.. I think there is a gentlemen on the D3 site possibly looking at that now under "moving to Northern Beaches" thread. i gave up and decided to buy new down here and sell mine in the UK as i just run out of time.

In regard to when you do your trip in October time, you can hire 4wd's here by the ton, usually Toyo's and Nissan's though.. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

SP has to get his jet first! It's the military market that's popping more at the moment post GFC. The Government market would be OK if we had a Government Thumbs Up

Yes, that was what I meant. I actually did not realise it would be THAT difficult. Since the steering wheel is on the same side in the U.K. and Australia, I assumed taxes would be the only problem...

Anyway, thank you very much for your information, I am going to look into this ASAP.

Angel, come on, bud! You are not that old ..... Thumbs Up Vadim A.

Vadim, give me a PM if you need a place to bunk down in Canberra area. We're about twenty minutes out of town, and have plenty of room spare.
Gov 4wding only starts when you have to get out the cab. Everything before that is just driving on crap roads!
