Prop Shafts

What are the issues and implications of the prop shafts not being straight?

Depends on how badly and for how long. From vibration through the chassis, to throwing the car offline and chewing out the UV joints, possible diff failure and a nasty hole in the bottom of your car ......

Thanks Gordon,

Not sure about those two points TBH..

What causes prop shafts not to be straight in the first instance?

Misaligned from factory or damage from off road use I would imagine. Maybe that's the cause of your vibration 2r. Remember, I had vibes from a rear diff on my last RRS so a mis aligned shaft causing diff issues could be a problem. Take it to your favourite LR dealer for a check before your warranty runs out.

Could also be your engine mounts are worn out (engine vibration felt in the cabin when waiting at the traffic light in Drive with brakes applied) and also your transmission mount. This causses your transmission to move by a few centimeters to one side and as the transfer box is attached to it, it will also move straining your front/rear shafts.

I changed my 2 engine mounts and the transmission mount and problem went away, much niser ride.
