United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Green Lanes | Help Required

I'd really like to try my hand at some green lanes, but couldn't make head or tail out of the green lanes rules and websites referenced in earlier posts..

It all seems very secretive, like some druid fuelled conspiracy to keep out townies.

Would love to join up with someone who has experience and would like to take out a few newbies.

Anyone interested?

Preferably SE/SW.. Or if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance. 57 RRS | TDV8 HSE | Java Black | Black Interior | Side Steps | 20" Alloys

Get yourself an Ordinance Survey map and look for the "Byway Open to All Traffic'(BOAT) if you then drive to the start of the BOAT if there are any restrictions it should be posted. It is however best to contact the local Council by phone to check before any journey. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Nasman,

If you get an OS map 1:25000 scale for the area you want to go to and pop in to see Jeremy or myself then we will mark the available green lanes. As VA says this doesn't guarantee that they are open for use, so it's a little hit or miss unless you speak to the Rights of Way officer at the council.

Once you have a map and know what to look for (i.e. what is a genuaine ROW) then it's pretty simple. You can get software for your PC (Memory Map is good) which makes plotting easier.

My only concern is that unless you know the route then it is a gamble as to how rough, muddy or overgrown it is likely to be. I'd also make sure that you go in convoy with someone else and to make sure that you take some basic kit just in case. I'm sure others will give you more of an idea, however I would say that the kit should be a minimum of:

Another capable vehicle
A 5m long nylon strop (rope) with shackles for each end
A shovel
Some cut down scaffolding planks (to put under stuck the wheels)

The worst thing is for your pride and joy to be stranded with no cheap or easy way of getting it back onto the tarmac.

It would be great to have a RRS forum green lane day, however we would need to find someone who know a particular area well and who is able to drive the route just before to check that it would be passable for a RRS on road tyres.

It is good fun though but it does require you to be a little realistic as to what damage you may pick up or what happens if you get stuck.

PM RRSBoy and he'll give you an idea of what it's like as he has just got into Green Laning in his TDV8 RRS.

Australia 2005 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Tangiers Orange

Did a spot of green laning in south wales on Saturday, joining up with a group near Sennybridge. Luckily for me, I'd missed the lane where not one of them had escaped without a series of scratches down to the primer on both sides, such was the 'clearance' the farmer hadn't done halfway down the lane, just after the point when turning round wasn't an option !

Great fun though, gave my new Pirelli ATR's a proper try out Thumbs Up

I got some few fine scratches on my bodywork from Saturday, but they polished out fine yesterday - think it wouldn't be my cup of tea and my bodywork and alloys are too precious....think I'll post a thread for another meet but something a little more Black Beauty and not too A Team...... Smile

I think you need to post some more pics of your exploits to give the guys an idea. The lane we accidentaly went on during the meet on Saturday wasn't really a green, more an unsurfaced road.

NickM, I wouldn't have dared to take you on a proper one!
