EGR Valve Warranty Issue

Had a very unusual thing happen to me in terms of a warranty issue on my car. I had the amber engine management light come on in the car yesterday, took it to Lookers this morning, and they said my EGR valve had gone. I told them it was replaced last year and they said it would be fixed under warranty, as they guarantee the part for 12 months. Luckily I had it changed on this exact day last year - so it will be covered. Or so I thought. Apparently, it's only under warranty for as long as you have LR warranty on the car. Because my LR warranty ran out on 26th November, it's now not covered.

So if I had the valve done on November 20th, a week later there would have been no warranty on the part.

Lookers are checking this with warranty people at LR, before I look to speaking to Customer Services, but it's a unusual dillema! Have every faith in Lookers though, and know they will fight my corner. Will keep you posted.

I agree, My understanding was that if you have parts fitted by a dealer then they come with a 1 year warranty. This is seperate to the standard warranty on the car. If it wasn't then if you had work carried out by an LR dealer on a car that was out of warranty you would get NO warranty on that work or parts... But apparently if you get work done outside of warranty, it is covered by a 12 month warranty. It's only when you get work done on warranty, and if warranty expires before the end of the 12 months part warranty, then you are stuffed!!!

Interesting wonder what the outcome will be Question

If not covered would be tempted to buy and fit a blanking kit, at least then you know its not going to fail again and it is a lot cheaper. Some have even benifitted from more mpg.

My understanding is this:

1. If a part is replaced under warranty, the warranty of that part will be as long as the vehicle warranty. Meaning if your vehicle warranty has another 9 months remaining, then that part will be warranted for the next 9 months.

2. On the other hand, if you paid for a spare part, then it carries the full 12 months warranty. Malaysia Boleh!

Nick - if this is the case please ask to see the T&C's on the job sheet that you signed on completion of the work - I would guess it doesn't state it. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Well what Bobby says is right....for as long as it was a warranty job and I didn't contribute any money to it, the warrnty for that part would expire when the LR warranty for that vehicle expired, ie after 9 months. hence my dillema. They are looking into a goodwill gesture, but will see....and let you know

OK clear now your original post didn't make clear that the original work was a warranty job. I seem to remember that the EGRs are not an expensive job. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Still £500 - 3 hours labour and £125 for the part, plus vodka & tonic....

Not that it effects your situation but has the same valve failed, or is it the other one not replaced Question

I stand to be corrected but doesnt Euro law dictate a 5 yr warranty for fair wear and tear of an item? I know I used it to get a designer kettle replaced on behalf of my ex-wife.
