According to The Times, the Government is considering an increase to £200 in the price of a tax disc for high-emission cars which produce more than 250g of carbon dioxide per kilometre – compared with 104g for Mr Wicks' own Toyota Prius.

Looks like he has the Toyota Prius.

When Toyota wack a hybrid engine in something half descent looking it would be worth considering. Its not the consumers fault that the manufacturers are taking their time getting these engines out. Apparently read somewhere Toyota and Lexus are 3 years ahead of even Bmw and Merc in getting their Hybrid engines ready for their large high powered saloons and 4x4 for the mass market. When LR wack one in an RRS i would definitely consider one, but right now there is no serious alternative.

Plus when they do go main stream, there probably will be a massive premium attached to the prices to take advantage of the increase in tax on the petrol equivalents.

Exactly... I know BMW are not too far from releasing a hybrid car. I remember reading in BMW magazine recently about their 730h that they already have running. Don't they also hold some land speed record for hybrid powered cars?

As for 4x4's with 7 seats (Mrs VA's Volvo) will we be given a discount because really she's driving a bus! I would have to do 6 journeys in a Fart car to transport the same amount of people that the Volvo can carry. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

We already pay higher taxes by virtue of the higher than average fuel consumption, in fact, S/C owners should have their own personal account manager at the Inland Revenue Wink
I need a large car like the RRS for towing purposes and I can't afford to buy an extra car just for me to drive into town with Evil or Very Mad
The arrogant stupidity of the man to assume that everyone can do what they need to do with a Toyota Prius beggers belief. We don't buy these cars BECAUSE of their higher fuel consumption, it is an unwelcome consequence of the vehicles we choose/need to drive.

In fact, if you do some basic sums, based on an average annual mileage of 12,000 and an average fuel consumption of 20mpg (average between TDV6, V8 & S/C), we already pay more tha £750 a year more tax than someone who gets 30mpg from their car.

Aren't we paying enough already ??

It continues to amaze me that the 4x4's are the subject of such focus from a 'green' persepctive. My S4 drank petrol and delivered enough emmisions to get Keith Richards high for a year however no one ever commented that it was environmentaly unsound - all they ever commented on was.....oooohhhh bet that costs a stack in fuel!!

If you look at the emmisions of a TDV6 they are no worse than any other big exec machine! Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Exactly! It's this point that the Robin Sunpower's of this world don't seem to appreciate. Do they look at other ecology-bashing methods of transport? The amount of fuel used in a flight from here to LA would keep even a SC going for... well, at least a trip to the corner shop and back Laughing Laughing
