You'll be lucky Jimmy, the official Land Rover Product price list in Australia means that most people go for a Rhino Rack..

The LR Raised Air intake is just that, a raised air intake only. It's not water proof, althouhg I've heard some have managed to water proof it. Probably look over on Disco2.co.uk

Good luck..

Decisions

LR have quoted me more than $3500 for the expedition racks and rails kit so that has sent me off to ARB for a Rhino rack as suggested. About $1200 sorts it all out including installation - bargain.

As for the snorkel, my guys up here in Newcastle have quoted me $1200 for an official LR air intake, modified to make it a snorkel including waterproofing of the intake through to the manifold, and all installation. Sounds pretty fair to me.

Prepping in readiness for a trip to the Cape next June (fingers crossed) 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Jimmy, I'd be interested to know what your chaps are saying needs to be done to the RAI to make it watertight and where the issues are with it. I just thought it was because they weren't sealed against the wing properly, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Mine is sealed against the wing, done by LR when it was built for the challenge. It's certainly watertight if the photos I've seen of it in Thailand are anything to go by and I've had it fairly deep myself. From others that have dunked their G4's the problems they've had aren't related to the RAI, more to do with components on the front of the engine failing (alternators, a/c compressors etc).

There was a chap on the G4 forum recently flogging a full set of G4 kit taken off one of the event RRS's, I know it may be a faff to get shipped but if he still has the rack etc then you may be able to do a deal ? Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Mike,

Will try and convince them to put together some pics of the job and descriptions and will post them here if it happens.

My understanding us that they are going to undertake additional sealing work where it attaches to the guard as well as sealing the hose from inside the guard to the engine.

Am also looking at what other key fixtures need sealing in the engine bay.

Trying to get her ready for the Cape next year which has deep river crossings.

Apparently there's a CPU behind the battery box that can cause major headaches if it gets wet. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

You're worried about a CPU behind the battery box getting drowned ? Shocked Just how deep is this water you're planning on driving through ?! Laughing Ex-G4 Challenge RRS HSE, BV55 YZE. Subtle shade of orange ! Now registered YZE481 G4RRS in Melbourne.

We're taking her to the Cape and back and water regularly goes over the bonnet on some of the river crossings there. She'll need to be part submarine. If she sinks, well... Big Cry

Here's the update on the sealing as I understand it.

The wing needs to be sealed but also too the air filter box ( i think there are a couple of small drain holes in there) and the intake (that runs across the top of the radiator) where it joins the filter box, along with the end of that section (RHS looking at engine) which currently only seals loosely with a rubber join between the two plastic sections.

The latter is situated quite low down in the engine bay.

No point sealing the Snorkel at the body if you're still going to draw water halway through the intake system. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Australia 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 S Bonatti Grey

Hey Jimmy,
If you don't mind doing things a little differently, have you thought of coming out through the outer guard further forward, level with the actual box. Not as pretty, but it's what I'm probably gonna end up doing.
Also, a couple of options for the CPUs:
I was readying somewhere recently that there has been some success in sinking them into resin, although I've not tried it; or
What I did with my DII was bought a Tupperware container and mounted the CPU inside it, thus just having to seal the lid and a hole in the corner of the lid wear the wires exit.
Just a thought,
Cheers
Gov
PS great videos mate, good to see 4wding only starts when you have to get out the cab. Everything before that is just driving on crap roads!

Hey Gov,

Sounds like you've done your research.

Have heard rumours of the resin dipping idea but haven't seen anyone posting anything on it.

Have decided to go with mounting at the current intake on the guard and will post some images during and after if possible. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Haven't got the pics back of the install as yet but thought I should at least post a pic of the car set up with the new snorky and racks.

The steel wheels are brand new and were originally designed for the D3.

Made out here in Oz by Dynamic Wheels.

Heavy compared with the alloys obviously but wont matter if I bash them about. If i dent one, I can belt it back into shape and continue on. Twisted Evil 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6
