Switzerland 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Parking Heater / Stand Heizung

All,

Living in Switzerland, and it being so damn cold these days, has made me think of the good old "oil heater" I had in my Land Cruiser when I lived in very cold climate, so I looked around, and found a whole bunch of posts regarding the Webasto solution over on the D3 forum, and even some posts here in the RRS one.

So, what do I have in my TDV8, just a standard pre-heater, the so-called FBH (Auxiliary Heater)? And if so, can it be made to turn on before I come out and start up the engine? And, how do I check if I do have this installed?

And, is it possible to "upgrade" this system to become a complete Parking Heater solution, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance,

KB RRS TDV8, black with ivory.

There was a post recently about this. I am sure someone said they had geared it so they could use their phone to start the heater. Either that or I have been dreaming about reading forum posts! WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

No can't be done. But with the timer it will warm the engine up for you but not the cabin till you get in and start the engine. TDV6 - gone

OK, so we may, or may not, be able to upgrade the system to a parking heater with, or without, a trigger.

But, the existing solution, this FBH, when does it turn on?

I understand it turns on at a predetermined temperature (some say 5 degrees), IF there is enough diesel in the tank, AND the interior climate system is set for automatic, even if/when the engine is turned off. Also, how do you know it has been turned, or is turned on?

Turns on at 5 degrees.

How do you know it's on?...........usually you can smell the diesel inside the cabin and you will see the exhaust smoke coming out of the wheel arch. TDV6 - gone

OK, so it should be easy then.

I have found the Webasto heater in the engine compartment, and currently it is -10 degrees outside, and the car has been turned off for 4 hours, so it should be kicking in. However, there is no smoke, and it does not smell like diesel, so how can I see if it is working (if I turn the key and get the dashboard lights on, the temp. is not moving at all.)

Should I check a setting, is there a switch somewhere (besides from leaving the climate system on "auto", and having enough diesel)? Which fuse can I check? Or, should I talk to the stealer?

Why not spend some time this Sunday to read all you wanted to know about the FFBH fitted to your vehicle...?

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...eater1.pdf

This is on the older models but I think they'll be the same in your vehicle.

I hope this is useful. Wink Malaysia Boleh!

OK, so having read the document, it surprises me that it seems the FBH is only on turned on during engine operation, or perhaps I am misunderstanding something (English is not my native language).

What is the point then? It should be switching on especially when the engine is not running (to facilitate engine starts), that would make sense!

So, if I undrstand it correctly, how do we make this turn on withour the engine?

Using the Webasto gsm unit I'm sure it would be possible to get a small in car cigerette lighter powered heater to work. The FBH connected to the timer is a great thing and although as stated it doesn't heat up the interior until the car is started the heat is instant so not really an issue. I seem to remember that the FBH will not work if you have the auto climate control working in the car. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
