Tyre Wear

Just had my second service at an independant service centre and he has advised that at 12900 miles my front tyres need replacing and the rear are very close.
I know there has been a great deal written here on the subject but I cant believe that a set of 20" tyres only last 13000 miles.
I dont drive the vehicle in such a way to scrub the tyres and all the wear is on the outside edge.

I have called LR customer service who have asked me to let a dealer take a look.

What do you think?

try checking the tyre pressure.
running on under-inflated tyre is one of common causes for tyre wear on edges.
(accordingly excessive wear in the middle section for over-inflated tyres.)

Tyre pressure is very important so I always keep it checked.
Thanks for the tip though

John, I went through two whole sets of tyres in 26k and had my alignment checked - all ok. A lot seems to also be dependent on tyre mfr - I had the Contis from the factory, followed by Pirellis from my local tyre emporium but both wore very heavily. That said, I couldn't say I drove it gently Whistle

Ah but LR will tell you that this is normal tyre wear on the outer shoulders and is characteristic.........well it certainly has been on both of my RRSs.

Normal I'm afraid. Whistle TDV6 - gone

Yep, especially if you got Continentals, LR says is a "feature"(a bit like windows Wink )
Dealer showed me the info they got.

Try to keep the pressure slightly higher and check alignment.

My next summer tyres are not going to be Contis. '08 RRS TDV8
I converted my diesel RRS to run on an environmentally friendly mixture of caribou fat and baby seals oil

Not surprised to be honest - you have 2 1/2 ton of car running on 4 bits of rubber. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

No...i ended up buying two new rears and and thought i may as well check the allignment seeing as i shelled out £400...

to be honest, when i need to replace all 4 tyres i am going to go with the General Tyre, cheaper and a harder compound + it is an all season tyre.

My mate has the Contis on his Q7 and has exactly the same issue RR Sport TDV6 HSE 07MY Java Black

VA - thats £50 a month on rubber then and I am only driving it 6000 mile a year.
Glad I dont use it for work otherwise it would be three+ sets a year!
Thats a running cost that most dont think about when they fall in love.

John - agree it's a lot and I would have to agree the standard fitted tyres are not really up to the job as they are too soft. I've got MTR's fitted on mine and done 20,000 on them so far and would say they have another 30,000 left in them. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Thanks VA I will give them a look, though everyone I speak to say that hard waering tyres should not be used on a vehicle of this weight so it seems to be a rock and hard place situation.
