But then 12mpg probably isn't indicative of the average SC mpg - what is it, MDP? A mile from home to the office and back?

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Stornoway Grey

I reckon my 6700 miles in the last 4 months are pretty average driving, lots of motorways, some town, some off road, and I reckon I am averaging about 16mpg.

If the DV8 did about 22mpg and maybe only 20mpg if you were pushing it hard, that would be more acceptable.

Mind you, thos efigures are just one man's opinions, and the real thing could be MUCH better L319 D4 HSE

I would have liked the V8, but having now been for a drive in a Superchip conversion I can't see any benefits other than a bigger dent in my wallet. The V6's performance after tuning will be similar or even better and have better mpg.
I'll be happy with that Very Happy

Not compared to a chipped TDV8 it won't!.

Having read all the comments/replies - yes my round trip for the average day is approx 4 miles and if I am nipping in and out around town or doing any local calls (work) I would only be doing 10miles max. So far I have covered a whopping 3500 miles since delivery on 16/9/2005 . But if you take this sum 3500 divided by the 126 days elapsed , then I am doing on average 27.7 miles a day.

I like the sound of a potential TDV8 thats better on fuel and is as sporty as the Supercharged and ultimately will cost me less Very Happy ....... will just have to wait and see Wink

£1,000 is a lot to put down, my D3 deposit was only £500 (6 months prior to launch) and the new Freelander deposit is £0

In my experience of buying new cars, it's not unusual for the dealer to want you to stump up a grand as a deposit. Unless you're ordering the banana yellow with pink interior, which they're not likely to resell if you cancel, I do think a grand is a bit over the top and as Josh says, it's all interest in the bank for them. They're not known as "stealers" for nothing Wink

I have dealt with the same dealer now for the last 6 vehicles. When I ordered the sport he did not ask for a deposit . The vehicle is due for delivery tomorrow. Maybe I should put my name down for the new DV8 tomorrow.

nice.

I wonder if LR will ever consider the V8 petrol that shuts down to a four cylinder when about town to save fuel as in the Cadillac range?

That's what I've done. Due November 06

Re the engine being heavy, I am not so sure it will be actually, the new DV8 unit utilises revolutionary CGI technology, which means compact graphite iron I think, in order ot make it much lighter. L319 D4 HSE

I had £500 down for about 8 months for the D3 and nothing for the new Freelander for the wife.

The V8 will still be a heavy engine as it is the V6 with another bank of cylinders. As you know the V6 s CGI too. I'm not sure if the mpg gets down to 20 why you don't go the whole hog and have the SC, unless of course the oil burner is quicker Shocked

I am getting 11mpg daily/period on my usual around town motoring Sad so if the new DV8 could return 22 on this same cycle then it would halve my fuel bills Very Happy .......... but in order for me to warrant a change I would like to wait & see final purchase cost with all options & its eventual performance figures .

I wait with baited breath Wink

Alegedly the V8 diesel is lapping the Nurburgring faster than the SC with The LR test drivers - food for thought
