England

There was a case of this on the TV the other week. A RAF pilot on the Queen's flight was nicked on the M25 and said it was his wife. They looked at the photo and asked if he was sure he still blamed it on his wife. They enhanced the photo and you could see clearly it was him, it went to court he was done big time and discharged from RAF - was it worth it? Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

Germany 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Cairns Blue

This sort of thing is treated a little differently in Germany. A few years ago, we were living in the UK and hired a car in Germany. Wife was driving and we were "blitzed". A couple of weeks later the speeding ticket went to her family home in Germany so her father went to the police station and pointed out that we lived in the UK and that it was only a week before Christmas!!! The police said ok, reduced the fine to around 30 euro and did not put any points on her licence Very Happy (If you live in the UK, try it out, the Met are bound to react in the same manner.

Another occasion, errrrrrrr, someone I know had the police turn up with a photograph of him speeding. He denied it was him, claimed that as he had just taken delivery of his new Mercedes and it was his birthday, everybody at the party wanted to drive it. He named a load of people (including people living abroad who were at the party) and told the police to contact his solicitor. Nothing was heard from the ever again Shocked

The one to avoid in Germany is tailgating. If you get zapped (they use helicopters and cameras under bridges) expect to get a ban through the post and heavy fine coupled with a lot of points. Speeding or overtaking in villages brings a heavy fine, points and bans. (Quite rightly too)

The local tv channel here showed the Austrian police busting a German Porsche driver for speeding. He was given an instant 3 month Austrian driving ban and the bloke asked someone else who had been pulled over if they would drive his car to Munich with him in the passenger seat. The 18 year old girl in the other car, who had only passed her test a couple of months previously was quite excited to be accepted as the volunteer driver Laughing
