I have always (where possible) enabled the auto locking feature on my cars. And, it's so nice and easy to enable it on the RRS, no need for a dealer.

Everyone should do it. Now: Range Rover Vogue TD6, JE Stage 1. (Green!)

My mum was in the car over Xmas and asked what the clunking noise was when we drove off. I explained it was the car doors automatically locking and she went off on some rant about how you should never drive with the doors locked in case people need to get into your car if you crash it! Rolling Eyes

I'm surprised she didn't ask if I had clean underwear on for the same reasons - anyone else's parents carry around some ancient old ideas like that? Wink

Yes I did - but that means trusting to electronics and my Mum was never one for that! "It" could decide not to unlock the doors, you see! Wink

My mum still carries a wooden batton in her car, from when she had to do the bank run for the businesses, for ahem, self defence....

She never goes to the bank anymore, but she still keeps the batton in her car......weird. Confused

My dads also one of those annoying people who sometimes, when visibility is low in the daytime, will not switch on his lights. As long as he can see everyone else that's fine, it's their problem if they can't see him, they should look harder... Rolling Eyes

If he had auto lights, he'd probably switch them off on the basis they might blow the bulbs sooner than if he switched them on and off as he wanted to, so it's cheaper in the long run.... Question Now: Range Rover Vogue TD6, JE Stage 1. (Green!)

Yep i agree, been the same with my cars..
nearly got hijacked once in my ford fiesta 1.25 Zetec.. (yes they must have been desperate!) and since that day im rather paranoid in my car, always keep an eye on everything going on around my car when i park/walking towards it etc..

Cousin who is a cabby in london told me a funny story, for obvious reasons cabbys are often beaten up and so its seen as a good idea to have something in the car to defend themselves with, it used to be a bat and ball in the boot, but now police are wise to that, then it was the one metre long mag light! but again, its a little too brutal being made in quite strong metal.. latest thing is a walking stick! lot of cabbys have them in their cars and if an officer ever enquires, it was 'left by an old passenger!"..
thought that was quite a good one.. Past: Bmw M3 Coupe 57, 335d Coupe 56, Audi RS4 06, RR Sport TD HSE 05,
Current: 57 Bmw 730d Sport, 56 Merc S320 CDI L, 57 Merc Viano L 2.2CDI

Not having an RRS this may be a stupid question. Can you lock the doors before you drive off manually?
As I'm guessing that woman had just been shopping, so cars doors hadn't locked yet! MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.
