I had a loaner TDv6 over the weekend. Yesterday while driving to the dealer the car displayed "Engine system fault", and deceided 80km/h was a good top speed. I stopped the car and checked fluids, idiot lights etc.

Nothing...

The car reset itself when I removed the key, and deceided things were ok, only to give the same message again 20 minutes later.

I understand the "Engine system fault" message is a generic one, but did anyone experience something similar?

The only thing out of the ordinary I can think of was that the tempeature
dropped from 0 to -10 Celcius rapidly during the trip.

Perhaps the system is to sensitive and gives alarms without reason? That would be annoying when I go to the northern parts of Sweden and my dealer is 1000km away...

Mine displayed the same message for the first time a couple days ago. Stopped, restarted and it has never done it since. Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

This is a wiring loom fault on the car usually caused by an over stressed loom that has been incorrectly fitted on the production line...it will either be the gearbox loom or the rear-end loom connections.

I had a customer who had his RR Sport back to the dealer 7 times until eventually they agreed to strip the car down and located the faulty loom...he rejected the car and LR had to replace it!

This problem is not 'dangerous' but it could be if you are overtaking and the car suddenly loses power etc

Dealers are aware (or should be) of these problems so get it back asap

had message on my screen some time ago, advised dealer that when I swiched on/off it cleared. Was advised that it was a computor hitch in the system and would be ok in the future ???????/

My car was displaying the engine alert, took it to
Manhattan LR and they hooked it up and diagnosed
it as faulty rear wiring looms off the catalytic convert.?
Thus the engine reading faulty oxygen levels and
hence the 'amber' engine light.... Replaced and downlaoded
new software and away we gooooo!!!!
I think its a minor glitch ? Any one else confirm this ?

Here's the print out from LR NYC,,

"Faulty software and possible faulty 02 sensor bad connection
caused mil illumination.
Hooked up testbook, retrieve codes,po171,174,455,442 present.
Performed software download. Tightened 02 sensor connections
cleared codes.OK."

can you imagine a rr dealer stripping down the car to try and locate a fault that has only occured once,?if it comes up again, better to call out land rover assistance . If it is a recognized problem, there will be a recall, can you imagine if anything serious happened and lr new about the fault ,the compensation claims would be enormous. Was it ford who had trouble with some tyres a few years ago, cost them millions!
