Sorry to hear about this.

My advice is fit Tracker response, fit good house alarm and set it at night (9 out of 10 people with alarms don't set them at night because they think they will hear and intruder - WRONG!!), fit good quality door and window locks and use them, take all car keys, house keys, wallets and handbags upstairs or invest in a safe.
Consider a dog only if it fits your life style ie. dog walking, holidays etc.

If you do all that you will send the bas...ds elsewhere as it then becomes too difficult. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

Sorry to hear of your experience. I hope they will be caught and suitably punished.

Many years ago a friend's car was stolen from outside a pub we were in. Luckily someone told us just as the thieves were leaving and this allowed us to give chase immediately.

Long story short, we managed to corner them after a short chase and apprehended both the rascals. We tied them up and broke both their legs and left them in an alley.

Unfortunately we forgot to duct tape their mouths and after about an hour of shouting they were rescued. Damn!! Twisted Evil
We will be more careful the next time!! Smile Malaysia Boleh!

Belgium 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

What a terrible chain of events. Adding to the anguish of a break-in, dealing with being suspected of a wrongful death is horrible. House-jacking, as it is known around here, is the crime of choice in Belgium.

Desireable cars (Porsche, FFRR, RRS's and Golf GTI's) are regularly stolen and out of the country in about an hour (small country). It is thought that most are "ordered" and that Eastern European gangs looks around for cars that meet these orders. Most are uneventful break-ins with just the keys stolen, but where someone (owner) has interrupted the theft, there has been violence.

We live in the countryside, but have a gate, an alarm, motion sensing lights all around the house, and a dog...for which, leaving big dog toys and her chain lying around the yard is a strong deterrent, according to the local police.

My primary concern is the break-in. We know the RRS is a target and while I'm keen to take all necessary care to prevent a theft, if they take the car...so be it. Just don't touch my family. 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony/Cherry, Privacy, Sunroof, PTI, Premium Sound, SatNav, Cold Climate, Tow kit, CarStyle coded grill and vents, Tasmods, Stormers, JE Exhaust, Autobiography badge

Really sorry to hear this what a terrible chain of events and just because of some scum. What is going on with these people feeling comfortable breaking into peoples houses when they are there.

We live in a remote location and my wife disturbed some scum trying to get back door glass out after spotting the keys for her FFRR, the police told us these guys were seasoned criminals and quite capable of violence. We were lucky, but we have turned from really laid back to security mad.

On the key front after talking to police etc. we leave all the keys on the stairs, can't be seen from outside but if they fancy coming upstairs for them in the middle of the night hopefully they would find them. We also have a family pact - give them the keys, don't fight.

It's only metal as much as it p***es you off it can be replaced. That said having a performance car stolen and recovered 3 times in 24 hrs, my words at the time, these things in the wrong hands are as dangerous as a loaded gun - all my thoughts go to the poor man and his family who found this out on the M5.

Crikey, awful story. Glad you had an alibi as (without meaning anything untoward by this) if you had been at home alone it could have been a nightmare trying to convince the plod that it wasn't you driving. Doesn't bear thinking about if you couldn't prove you were at home! Andy

Thanks for all the kind words guys and the ideas. There's a lot to consider and I've taken it all on board.

I definitely won't be locking my keys away in the future or taking them to bed with me. I would rather they take the car than come upstairs looking for the keys! Call me a coward, but the family comes first.

As far as dogs go, we have a dog, but I think he must have had too much to drink that night because he slept through the whole episode. Useless Censored !

I like the idea of the bollards, I recokon a physical barrier is as good a deterrant as any.

I went to see the car yesterday as the police have finally finished with it. It looks pretty bad but I've seen far worse in my time.

It just leaves one big question now - Do I replace it with a V6 or a V8 diesel??

Trouble with any sort of locking device including bollards is that you need a key and if the theives are going to go to the trouble of breaking in to the house for the car keys at what point are they going to stop looking for the other keys, including finding you or someone in the family so as to get the keys.Theres only so much a person can do to deter them

If i was in yor position now i would treat myself and have the V8 rrs, maybe the HST some of my Previous cars

Its only a matter of time before someboby comes up with the idea of either voice recognition or finger print scanning before you can start the car. Do you remember some years ago, some of the motor manfactures put key pads in the cars, i wonder what ever happened and why they didnt carry on with them. some of my Previous cars
