Damage to spare wheel off road.

Has anyone damaged the rear of the underslung spare wheel and if so is there any protection/skid plate available? Putting it in the boot is not an option because you cannot fix it down and winding up the cable tangles it up. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Depends on what you drag it across. I’ve run mine over hard dirt, grass, mud and snow with no ill effects. I haven’t run across any sharp shale that could cut or puncture the tire. Mind you I’ve only had it make contact in normal height, not in off road height.

Just make sure the wheel is face up, unlike almost every car that comes to the shop. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Haven't had a problem so far. You can buy a plate that stops the spare from being stolen, and I have one of those fitted, but it doesn't cover the tyre. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

On LR time I saw them take the wheel off a D5 and it had a big dished plate covering he whole wheel.
