I had a work mate who was always complaining that he had yet another puncture. It never occurred to him that having Chinese tyres at around £30 a time could have been why.

They're cheaper because they use less steel and the lowest grade rubber they can get away with.

Both are vital to the tyre deforming as little as possible, thus keeping the contact area, in contact with the road.

On a visit to the old Dunlop factory in the early 80's, I was surprised at what happens to a tyre during a single revolution, and learnt so much that I hadn't realised I didn't know.

Despite advances in technology, the principle remains the same, the need to maintain contact with the road, at the same time as keeping that contact area in the centre of the wheel that the tyre is on.

Cheap tyres with soft weak sidewalls will never work on heavy vehicles.

And you can get some old brake pads from the scrapyard & tie your broken exhaust up with string  Range Rover Sport: Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S

The first thing you look at when buying any car is the tyre brand, as for service history many a time its found to be a rubber stamp from a so say independant ,when cheap tyres fitted.
Easy to buy a stamp machine.
And fit extra washers to a loose balljoint.

If I was looking at two vehicles and one had cheap ditch finder tyres, I'd be drawn to the one with premium tyres. Someone that scrimps on tyres more likely scrimps on important maintenance, frankly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I see Tesco's have a special offer on this weekend, at the cheese counter for wheel bearings and brake pads.

Cheers all, ended up going with the Pirellis from Halfords. They had some issues getting the wheels off, took 2 hours! Made me grin, I did one of them in a petrol station forecourt with a crap wheel brace. Happy so, far, these have been great in standing water, and I could spread the cost over 12 months.
