EGR software patch clarification needed

I've emailed and spoken to several suppliers of egr delete software update but can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether it removes the function totally along with any future fault codes being registered or if it just removes the mil function but still registers fault codes. Each one has said I need to fit blanking plates and leave the valves connected. Why would they still need to be connected and remain in place if they have been removed from the ecu file? I want to remove the valves and coolers altogether. I'm beginning to suspect that a lot of these are just removing the dtc function and not removing the complete egr function. Any suggestions of a reputable company to do this are welcome. I think Bell auto services do this but I don't have Gap IID tool to upload their file (I use SDD). 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

It's just not worth the hassle of removing them to be honest. Just blank them.
Will ensure it gets through an MOT then.

1. You have to blank off the coolant circuit. (which isn't good for the early models)
2. The exhaust input to the EGRs require a bigger blank, which you will need to make yourself.

Three MOT testers who I know all gave more or less the same answer " Blank them off they don't get tested and they don't look for them" a fourth one went even further and said get rid of them altogether they are not needed and very often you get better emission results without them. Anyroad I'm still wanting to know if the patch just turns of the mill lamp or gets rid of the function altogether inc DTC's. If its just the lamp I may as well keep my £150 or so and just clear the fault every now and again. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

Hi,

if I remember correctly it actually tells the car to ignore the fault signal and so does Not put the light on, codes still happen.

if you do blank them you also want to remove the internals, butterfly valve from the "throttle body" Confused

I found it better value and simpler to replace mine, treat as a consumable, if you do replace go for Valeo units.

Had it remapped yesterday by Superchips along with egr delete. Once the chap had finished the software delete he unplugged the valves and said to leave them unplugged he also said no need to remove the flap. Only done about 20 miles and 5 or 6 restarts so far but no codes have shown up with a couple of subsequent re scans. I'll check again when I've done a few more miles. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

Hi,

there may be no Need to remove the flap but its just a restriction in the air flow so makes sense to remove it.

If it's blanked off, there is no flow. That's the point of blanking them off. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

Not talking about the valve inside the EGR Exclamation

But inside the air inlet on top of the engine
(Is it Throttle body can not remember !)
It’s where the egr pipes route the exhaust gasses back into the inlet

Don’t think you will get the codes for the EGR not working correctly as you have unplugged them, so it does not see the valves moving (or not!) anyway Wink

Well I tried just unplugging them a while back before having them mapped out and got plenty of codes for them along with engine light. Could clear them but they came back and light would come back after about 3 starts. Anyway I'm happy with this remap as I gather some just tell the ecu to ignore the codes but they are still there when scanned just no engine lamp. I can't see the flap making much difference to air flow while it is stuck open and the turbo is pushing air in but I can see a case for removing it if it was still active. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

"Not seeing them moving" is the actual reason ECU throws an error code. If it was that simple, just unplugging would do the job. Regards etc.,

Yeah, you'll get an engine light and the car will get very unhappy with you. Loss of connection (e.g. a broken wire preventing correct operation of the EGR) is a failure mode that the ECU will be looking for. If it can't talk to the EGR (or think it is, anyway), then it will consider there to be an emissions problem and try to prevent you being a bad polluting person. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Update

I scanned car again yesterday with SDD and still no codes Thumbs Up well apart from a couple of U codes relating to stereo. So I can recomend the EGR patch from Superchips at least on the 2.7 engine. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model
