How do you remove drivers knee pad?

The knee pad below the steering wheel has a latch like thing in the middle which does nothing and seems to be broken...how do you get the knee pad off.

To be polite it's a lap cooler vent, although there are other desciptions for it Laughing just give the panel a pull from the top.
