TDV8 turbo failure (3,6)- which side is common to fail?

Hi there,

I have a 2007 RRS 3,6 - TDV8, left turbo has failed. The car only has 97.000 km on the clock.

I am searching for statistics - is it most common to have turbo failure on the left side, or right side?

If it is most common on the LH side, why is that?

Would i need to replace both, or just the one on the left?

I have done a couple of these now and given the age and mileage I would replace both , especially if oil has gone into the intercooler, you need to clean everything you can , best you can if that’s the case . Last one I did it had failed and filled the exhaust collector box up with oil , so even after draining there will be smoke for a bit while it all burns off .
