By way of a counter point of view, I was in my caravan (2200 kg Vanmaster or over 2 ton in old money) during most of the recent snow shod in standard 20" tyres. I did not encounter one problem towing or solo; felt safe as houses and never had to wait for hills to clear before ascending as so many did - the cause of most tailbacks.

I've been towing for 30 years in all seasons but I would of stayed extra nights or postponed trip before tow in the recent snow we've had however good an suv I had Shocked

I've had twin axles of similar size and they all came fitted with summer tyres - I wouldn't want to do an emergency stop with 2 tonne pushing my 2 tonne suv into a car coming in the opposite direction Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Instead of a PHEV what about the new Jaguar iPace EV? Starting price is a bit high but it has a claimed range of 310 miles on a charge (in High summer I suspect!) although not sure if the cargo area would take two St Bernard’s 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

Hi Tim,
I think all electric in a couple of years, give time for the technology to bed in.
Ipace is probably not big enough and JLR and electrics do not seem to work together well at the moment
I did drive a Tesla X last year, a huge vehicle and the gull doors not practical. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

I also had a test drive of the Tesla X and in addition to the reason you give for discounting it I included the extortionate price in the UK even for the lowest spec I could have a nice RRS without any range anxiety or two Countrymen PHEV with an even higher spec than the car I have on order which has just about everything except the adaptive radar assisted Cruise combined with braking system and the smokers pack....... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I considered all electric but it was too much of a leap at moment for me - I prefer the backup of petrol for longer trips. I'm sure electric range will improve and charging will be more convenient in the future and then I will consider it Thumbs Up

I was interested in the iPace but the growing problems with newer models and dealers I just couldn't go there Confused

Bit of worrying news from USA recently regarding PHEVs losing access to chargers to give priority to EVs - if it happens here it may put some buyers off Sad

This doesn't seem unreasonable to me. The PHEV has an alternative to charging, the EV doesn't. Whilst charging points are limited in number, ensuring they are used by those most in need seems reasonable.

Always gets my goat seeing charging spaces being used by PHEVs/EVs that aren't being charged. Seen this a lot and assume the driver thinks the space is just a parking space reserved for electric users. Sadly, they stop others from actually charging. It's the electric vehicle version of double bay parking so beloved by some drivers. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I've seen charging bays blocked by diesel cars parked in them so EVs haven't been able to charge but site management not interested in doing anything about it

I've also seen vehicles left for hours in rapid chargers that only take 30 minutes

Personally I only park in EV space if charging and move off rapid chargers as soon as finished

I bought a PHEV to use electric where possible so if I'm forced to use petrol because I'm banned from using chargers then it makes a mockery of telling people to buy low emission vehicles Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Chargers were great when they were free, now a £6 fee for a charge that only gives a maximum of 30 miles if you're lucky, just not worth it, may as well top up with petrol so the EV's can have them, they need them Laughing, 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant

Motorway chargers are now £3 connection for 30 mins and 17p kw I understand but I don't use them

Most of the places I visit round me offer free parking while recharging for 15p kw or free electric.

Muddy I have heard and read that unless you buy your electricity from them that Ecotricity chargers are best steered clear of as for non “club” members they are about the most expensive chargers to use? Any tips as to which crowd to sign up with to get cheap charging? In Scotland a lot of the chargers are owned by a public body - Charge Scotland - and in my area most of the chargers are operated by them. I know the local NCP had to retro fit 6 charging points and to make them free to use but i’ve Hardly ever seen a car plugged in on them........... I tend to use the local, park and ride now I have an over 60’s bus card that gives me not only a free bus into town from the car park but also with a Charge Scotland card a free charge too - again I rarely see cars plugged into their 6 chargers. In the Glasgow area where the lawyers all have their chambers there is a whole street where all the parking meters were converted to free charging points and all I ever see is a street with Tesla’s, i8’s and 13’s parked down both sides and never an empty charger! Sponging lawyers? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Laughing

Agree on ecotricity

The charging network needs simplifying as it's too complicated at moment

I signed up with charge your car as they cover York where I go most and so I can charge free or 15p kw

Everywhere else I use petrol for odd time I have no battery as it's not worth using another provider

Sounds like charge Scotland would be your choice but I don't know enough about them or you usage to say for sure Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
