United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver
2005 RRS = sell or keep

Hi all,

In a little bit of a quandary and need some advice and thoughts on this matter.

Right we have had our 2005 2.7 TD HSE for 5 years now bought on 58k and now on 116k, been a good family car and the mrs loves it (she is the main driver). It's got FSH, spent some big money on it over the last few years (EGR valve 2k & recent new injectors with a whopping £2744 invoice). Car was keyed along 2 doors few years back and the repaint was not the best as painter did not remove the upper window trim, so paint is flaking a little. Apart from that all is working well.

We just bought a new expensive home so don't have much disposable income, so am worried if I get another large cost repair come up then how do I pay for it.

Just don't know what to do now, am thinking of selling up and then getting a newer cheaper car ie. Merc 250 CDI 2010 ish for 9k.. And then in 3/5 years when income is better then get another RRS OR do I just run this longer???

Hope that makes sense?

Any advice welcomed, cheers

Personally I'd keep it, you know it's faults etc.
When it comes to service time avoid genuine LR service Centres and use a independant LR repairer.
For age of your vehicle you could save a packet. There are several forum sponsors/members that offer excellent service and repair work, such as Disco_Mikey, have a look under sponsors at top right of page. Also members on here are sure to recommend one for your location, but I find it worthwhile to travel. Whistle
Your end choice of course, but any secondhand oldish car could be a money pit, more so Mercs. Embarassed John

Thanks Johnski....

I don't use main dealers for servicing/repairs ever.. I use Les Pauls LR Specialist in East London for most of the work, they are good but can be expensive. So after a recommendation on here I use a local Bosch garage who very good. I also get my parts from Dan @Duckworths from here. So try to be somewhat careful with my money..

Edit: What does Disco-Mikey do?

Mikey is based in Dundee in Scotland and is now workshop based so may be a bit of a hike for you, but he gives great advice and help, there are several other mobile guys who are specialists in more modern Land Rover products like RRS and Disco 3 and 4. Member Bodsy is one but there are a couple of others based in the south. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Keep it. It's worth very little really if you sell it and anything you buy is of unknown provenance in terms of servicing. Presumably it's had the belts etc done? If so, you know what's been done, what's due etc. I'd be tempted to have the gearbox flushed now (for <£300) to ensure some life in that.

For servicing you could try Iawa4x4 in Wellingborough.

I used them once a few years ago and seemed ok then. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

There are arguments for both keeping and selling.

For:

You've done a lot of work on the vehicle and you know what is needing to be done.

Against:

2.7 engines aren't the most reliable, age of the vehicle means you could have unexpected failures.

Nothing else will be as comfortable especially if you do long trips.

When I bought my 2005 RRS with 109k miles on it, I had it powerflushed, diff and
axle oils changed and a remap at JGs 4x4 near Kettering.

They were very reasonable and obviously knew the cars well. Tramsformed my car Thumbs Up
