Passenger Airbag - On board Computer says disabled?

Hopefully someone can help with this?
The switch on the left hand side of the dashboard is set to indicate that the passenger airbag is on.
However, when i start a journey the on-board computer is informing me that the passenger airbag is disabled.
Has anybody had this before or know how to fix it?
TIA

If you are referring to the message that flashes up up by the temp control switch mine has always done that from day one. I just assumed it was a system check prior to starting car. No faults shown in memory at all.

Cheers
Col

From the handbook:

In order to fit a child restraint to the front passenger seat, use the starter key to turn the airbag disabling switch to the OFF position.
Check that when the vehicle has been switched on (position ll), the operational status lamp on the instrument panel is illuminated indicating that the passenger airbag is NOT operational.

By implication, the operatioanal status lamp remains illuminated all the while the airbag is switched off. Robin
