soaking wet carpet front passenger side

got in the range rover sport (2005 model) today to find the passenger side front carpet is soaking wet, feels wet on the plastic moulding where the bonnet release lever is, anyone got any idea where the water would be getting in

If you have a sunroof more than likely the drain tubes are blocked. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

Open the roof and gently pour water both sides, if the tubes are not blocked you should see water running out in the front wheel arches. Both sides Life's too short to drive boring cars !

ok. i poured water down each side, i had water draining by drivers front wheel ok, but no water draining by passenger side front wheel, so assuming that that side is blocked causing the front passenger carpet to be very wet, any ideas on getting the drain tube unblocked

It's possible it's blocked behind the wheel arch shield, try getting to the bottom of the drain tube and make sure it's clear
You could try some gentle air pressure but be careful it might blow the tube off Life's too short to drive boring cars !

if the tube is blocked how is the water coming into the passenger footwell, how easy is it to take the side plastic molding off

It is running down the inside of the a pillar and then filling the footwell. It is a common problem with all Range Rovers have a look online.
It is either debris in the tube or blocked where it exits behind the front wheel. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

I checked mine today. Drivers side was ok but nothing from passenger side. Then I spotted some water dropping just in front of nsr wheel. Car parked on slight slope upwards so I think front drain was ok but water running away down chassis rail towards rear axle for some reason.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

I am sure it has front and rear drain tubes, the Discovery 2 only has front ones due to the raised roof and they are famous for leaking with lots of people sealing them up. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

Yes it does have front and rear drains, the rear was dripping down behind the rear wheel. Thumbs Up

I had the same problem with Passenger side sunroof drain hole.

Tried using strimmer cord and managed to unblock a fair bit, but it was just caked with muck and dirt, but did manage to get water draining out by the wheel, albeit not well enough as it was still causing the passenger footwell to get damp (better than flooded I guess).

In the end, I got a synthetic earplug and blocked the offending tube, I know this is a proper cowboy bodge, and leaves the driver side draining every thing, but it's fixed it!

Recently had this and also recently had it fitted. Originally the Right Hand side was blocked (my passenger side), had the tubes blown with compressed air, but didn't really help. Turns out the pipe should exit behind the side vent grill, but the rubber gromit that holds it there had deteriorated, so it was outputting the drainage water behind the grill - into the passenger side. And we're talking litres of water being squeezed out.
A new tube was installed. 1 hour job, cost of part was 7€. Cost of labour was 320€.
