England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

So this Warn Winch Tray happened to fall into my hands this evening! Was on that well known auction site so I put an offer in and it was 5 miles away for a collection, couldn't believe my luck. The guy brought it and only wanted the 9.5xp Winch for the rear of a Defender 110 and this was left over. Thumbs Up

Jobs well done then! IIRC from when member VA fitted one to a TDv6 RRS in the early days there can be problems with the front PDC heads and you may need to re-route or blank them off, also be careful with the sensor for the SRS/Airpbags.
If you want a natty Orange G4 Challenge Dyneema rope then a guy called Andy Tomlinson (he may have retired now!) was the sole importer. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Cheers Tim, still need to source the correct bolt kit for this now as I'm rather fussy about things being right, must be an OCD thing!

Managed to source a brand new bolt kit for the sumpguard from Mantec as they are not generic nuts and bolts.

I believe I can turn middle park sensors off on the iid tool when I manage to get that far but still a long way to go yet.

Many thanks for the heads up on the G4 Dyneema rope but hoping to get my paws on the Warn 9.5 XP-S.

Interestingly looking at the fitting guide on topix it shows a facelift car but I have never seen a facelift car with one fitted! 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

Buckster if you have time search for posts by VA (there will be hundreds so you may need to add a filter like "winch", his RRS is the only one apart from G4's and an LRE car I have seen with a winch. So after a lot of negotiation with the owner on this brand new and unused Warn 9.5 XP-Synthetic Winch I finally have my paws on it after a 2hr journey each way. He brought it but never fitted it and it has sat in the box since he got it!

It went for a silly cash price and one that I couldn't refuse considering how much they are! If I sell the car I will just take it off and keep it for another Landy project. This should keep me busy for a while Laughing Thumbs Up

Bloody hell Chris! That's as jammy as a jam sandwich dropped in a big vat of jam!

I can't even find a sump plate for my pre-facelift anywhere. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Buckster, any idea what the difference is between the "Synthetic" and "non-Synthetic" winches? I assume it is either the fair lead or the barrel design is different, but it may be that the Synthetic has a helix drive that will run the rope cleanly along the barrel so it doesn't bunch up in one place under load.

One on the problems I have with mine is that the rope "buries" itself or creates a ridge of rope in one place on the winch barrel which can make reeling it off again after the weight is off quite hard. I now use the same reeling in method on the Landies winch as we use on the ship's mooring winches - one run of coils full length of the barrel and then one coil that is run diagonally across the full width of the barrel - works well when there is no weight on the winchrope but when you have a stuck Land Rover on the other end it can be difficult to get that diagonal coil on under load.

Regarding the sump guard/plate - try contacting the LRE centres, they may have some that they took off Experience cars before they were returned to LR. Also if you use a dealership service bay they may charge you an hour extra labour to remove and replace the sumguard to carry out routine servicing............ have had that one tried on me! I know people who have modified them to incorporate a screwed in flap that you can open to get at the sump plug, saves removing the full sumpguard. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim,

The difference between Synthetic and Steal Wire rope is that the Synthetic comes with an Aluminium Hawse Fairlead where as the wire winch has a Roller Fairlead.

In terms of winch spec they compare identical even on speeds and line pull. The only difference being that the Synthetic saves nearly 10KGs in weight over its Steal wire brother, but that is a fair weight saving.

I have never had any issues with them removing the sumpguard or them wanting to charge extra as of yet Thumbs Up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
