2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
Internet Connectivity

I do not have a car yet with the latest connectivity feature but expecting one soon!!

The manual states:

Quote:
Connectivity methods include:

Wi-Fi Hotspot: Creates a Wi-Fi Hotspot in the vehicle, to allow connection of Wi-Fi equipped devices, e.g., tablet, laptop, smartphone, etc., to the internet. Also allows sharing of media between the Wi-Fi equipped devices inside the vehicle.

Wi-Fi: Allows the vehicle to connect to the internet using an external Wi-Fi network.

Mobile Data: Allows the vehicle to connect to the internet via a mobile network, using a data-enabled micro SIM or nano SIM card.

Internet connectivity requires a data-enabled micro SIM or nano SIM card or an in-range external Wi-Fi network.

My question is can I use the Wi-Fi option and connect to my phone to use it's data allowance and still get all the functionality without using a sim in the car? 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Yes you can. It then uses your 'tethering' allowance from your mobile package. It's what I do. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Great, I thought that was what it meant.

The thread on problems inserting a sim card just made me wonder. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

There's some decent info here on using your phone as a wifi hotspot

Unless i'm being dumb, doesn't it connect automatically every time you get in?

I have my WiFi hotspot switched on in the car, the when my phone connects via bluetooth the wifi indicator kicks in.

Or is that not how it works? Embarassed SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Just checked my hotspot usage, and nothings registered, so yes it looks like I was being stupid.

So how do you connect a RRS to a personal hotspot on an iPhone, is it possible? SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

As far as I can tell, only MY17 cars with the new media system can connect the car to external wifi, including mobile phone hotspots, I may be wrong as I don't have my RRS yet.

This is from the LR website in relation to MY17 cars:
