The switch can corrode and become unserviceable. It's an easy fix, thankfully. Have you tried pressing the Land Rover switch on your key in case it has been set to release the glass boot? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have a similar problem with my tailgate glass. It's on my list to replace the switch which I understand is an easy job. However it's low priority as I can open the glass with the 3rd button on the key fob so not an urgent issue. I have found that if I really squeeze the tailgate switch, it does work hence my belief that a new switch will sort it. You might want to try a hard squeeze of the switch as part of your investigations. However it will probably only confirm that a new switch is needed. Robin

There is a micro switch behind the rubber cover, this has a small metal strip across it that corrodes and disintegrates.

If you feel around up in there you will feel the micro switch. if you don't want to fix straight away but can activate the switch you can re-programme the key fob.

Its a very simple repair, and not costly.
