How long should my brakes last?

Hi all,

Can anyone advise me how long I can expect my brake discs to last, and how long the discs? it's a 2010 TDV8.

Thanks!

Depends to large extent on driving style and the type of journey. Last changed all the discs and pads on mine about 30k miles ago and the pads look to be about 70% worn. I'd expect the discs to last that distance again with new pads, especially if the lip is ground off when new pads fitted.

But then again I do drive with a great deal of sympathy (for which read 'like an old granny') most of the time.

(Oh dear probably started another controversy now. People will say you shouldn't grind off the lip but I'm convinced if it is done carefully it is fine.) 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

brake disc wear is dependant on a number of different factors rather than just how the car is driven.
I live 100 metres from the North Sea and have corrosion on my brake discs in a couple of days, obviously off roading can damage them with stones getting stuck behind the mud shields
Beware of cheap brake pads they are often very hard and rapidly accelerate disc wear.
Most sensibly driven vehicles should do a set of brake pads before discs need replacing as a worse case scenario
The problem with longer service intervals is that as the car is serviced every 15,000 miles rather than 7,500 miles if the pads are half worn they may not last to the next service. So they may be reported as need replacing but will easily do another 10,000 miles.
I expect at least 30,000 miles from front discs and more for the rears. Life's too short to drive boring cars !

my rears last 10k, and my front last around 20k, original brembos as well, we have a lot of country roads near me, and as i set off to work at 5am, the winding roads are clear, so VERY late brake into corners, in sport mode kills my brakes, am I bothered...............no Thumbs Up 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Why would the rears only last 10k when the fronts are doing 20k ? Surely the bias is set to the front

I have about 90k km on front brakes and pads, they are pretty close to done.

Rears have about 60k km and probably 40-50% worn.

Car does lots of all types of driving - city, highway, b-roads, and a fair bit of towing. MY08 RRS TDV6, Chawton/Black, sunroof, hk, 268k km
