TDv6 HELP!!!!!!

Hi,

I am looking for some advice on a rrs tdv6 hse, immaculate inside and out, full history land rover and Indy, all the usual niggles done, lower arms, compressor, egr valves all replaced. Only downside it has 159000 miles, it's a 56 plate.

Is there anything to look out for? Would anyone have any issues buying a rrs with this mileage?

Any help would be great Very Happy

If it's been properly looked after and is the right price, why not?

Presumably it has had the belts done (at 105k miles or 7 years whichever came first)? What about the oil pump? There is an issue with 2.7s of about that age where the oil pump casting can fail. A new, more robust casting was introduced and is worth retrofitting. Have a search on here and Disco3.co.uk for info.

One good thing about the 2.7 is that the engine is relatively easy and cheap to source should the worst happen. This reduces the stress of buying an older RRS a little. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi Martin,

Not sure about the oil pump but will ask, its on for £8995 which I didn't think was a bad price?

Hi RRSTDV8,

Oil pump sorted and all belts done last year, in the past it's had new rear arms, new compressor, new egr valves and a recent turbo recon. I've decided to bite the bullet and go for it Very Happy

Wish me luck...........

I would say for literally £2k more you could have a car with less than half that mileage. With that mileage things will be on their way out for the second time. Good luck!

Personally I wouldn't spend that sort of money on something with that mileage. It just sounds like it could become a money pit to me?

You could get a new low mileage motor for that sort of money?? (granted it wont be an RRS)

No way of putting the extra towards it for the 2010 3.0 V6 HSE??? I have one of these and can say much better option all round.

If you do decide to go for it I'd strongly recommend getting a parts and labour warranty quote first, this may save you ££££'s in the future. Plus how many owners has it had?? If it's 1 from new then that makes it much more appealing as it's more than likely been well maintained.

Good luck either way Thumbs Up

Hi bladeboy,

I've been looking around and generally the ones I've seen for more money do obviously have less miles but the ones I've seen haven't had nowhere as good service history so I thought I'd be safer with a well documented history.

Hi m8ch1n,

The cars had 3 previous owners in total, with the last 2 being from the same family. The service book is immaculate and I have also spoken to the Indy who has serviced it since 100k.

Hi jsamps,

OK it does sound like you have found one that has been well looked after it is just my own personal opinion to the high mileage thing for the amount you are spending.

Bare with me I have my reasons.......

I used to own a Mitsubishi L200 Raging bull edition 59 plate with 65k on the clock, 1 owner from new before me and FSH etc. Absolutely loved the thing, great 4x4 and tons of interior space and only sold it as the red paint was starting to fade. Anyway that vehicle sold for £9,000 and if I knew I could get one of those with that age and mileage etc or a 56 plate RRS with 160k on the clock for me it's a no brainer to buy the L200. (I do however prefer the RRS just in this scenario it would be the L200)

You sound like you have your heart set on the RRS and I don't blame you they are great and it's the best car I've had (so far) just thought it was worth sharing my opinion on what I would do if I were in your situation.

Probably made things even harder for you to decide now......sorry Rolling Eyes Current: RRS 2010 L320 Facelift 3.0 TD V6 HSE 5dr Alaska White

I hear what your saying pal, I have had 1 rrs previous and it caused me nothing but grief, that only had 70k on the clock but the history was bad, but I jumped the gun and went all in and got it but it ended up costing me a fortune, but it didn't put me off looking for another Very Happy

I only do about 6-7k a year so although the mileage is high I won't be putting on a a lot per year, plus with this one I have a great history unlike the last. I've got everything crossed this one wont be like my last, but thanks for posting anyway mate any feedback is always good Thumbs Up

I'm sure it will be fine it sounds promising especially if you are only going to be doing that sort of mileage.

Hi, check the mot history online Wink it might show up some bad points or areas for negotiation with the dealer.

Spain

Starship mileage, sorry, keep clear, lost of older low mileage Sports on the market. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
