BUYING MY FIRST RANGE ROVER SPORT HELP

Hi , just joined after some advice ...
Looking into buying my first range rover sport.
I have looked at a nice original 2007 over finch v8
35,000 miles full landlover history, one owner loads of recipets etc.
Are there any knowm faults with this model / age / milage i should look out dor , one issue noted is the rev counter some times does not work?

Led, I have had two and generally no trouble in 100,000 miles but you must read the various threads here. Like any vehicles there are good and bad but I'm convinced the bad second hand ones are the result of being abused. Treat them well and they are great. Regular servicing, not being thrashed from cold etc.. all pays off. The regular woes are front suspension/steering knock (bushes which are easily replaced) alternators (which are quite a big job on a TDV8 as a lot of engine needs to come out for replacement - I have had one go west) and general electric gremlins many of which are due to a worn out battery. Kept in good condition, a TDV8 is very rewarding. Your find has a very low mileage for an 07. Has it got service history? If you buy it, get a Warranty - peace of mind as much as anything. You might have to shop around as several don't like 10 year old vehicles (as yours will be soon). I have had Warranty Direct who were okay on claims for alternator & bearings. Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply,
When i went today i had a good look through the history its had alternator done and various other bits all from main dealership so quite hefty reciepts
My main concern was the turbos/turbos going a friend they say often go amd can be dear, would a warranty cover that.
To be honest i think its a good one, its a footballers wifes car so no expense spared on servicing/maintence etc.
Is there a sure way of telling a genuine overfinch ? The badges on the car are landrover but the dials / speedo are all over finch.
I was told it depended on customer spec as to what badges where changed etc?

Led, turbo's are another TDV8 issue but I've not had trouble, and although there are several on this forum who have, I guess we hear more from those who have had trouble than those who haven't. Warranty Direct cover them, and others will too but read the smallprint Thumbs Up

The only way to tell if it is a genuine Overfinch and not just eBay purchased bits stuck on it is to contact Overfinch BUT they have had so many changes of ownership/ bankruptcies over the years that they often don't have the paper records or will just decline to tell you............... If it has had any engine modifications then it won't be covered by any Land Rover warranty at all, bodywork mods generally are not a problem. Is the seller a franchised Land Rover Dealer, a non franchised LR specialist or just a 2nd hand car dealers? If the first two then it shouldn't be any problems, if the last one then insist that before you buy it that they get it into a franchised dealership service bay for a good going over, any outstanding recall/TSB work to be done and a service. As it has had an Overfinch body kit fitted it is extremely unlikely that it will have been off road......... but still check underneath for damage, also check that the transfer box works smoothly and quietly (even if you never intend to go further off road than Tesco's Car Park the kit should all work). Check that the suspension goes up and down smoothly and quietly and that the car sits level. Overfinch are "bespoke" car rebuilders so there is no way to know what level the previous owner went to with mods, some are just a body kit , some are just a replacement interior and some are hugely expensive engine, body and interior rebuilds, often to a brand new car.
One big issue with Overfinch cars can be insurance............... they are after all modified cars even if the engine is unmolested. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

This might be a worry as the rev counter is driven by the engine ECU using info from the crank position sensor. Replacing that sensor is an engine out job (which is itself a body off job). The sensor is between the flywheel and the engine block.

Not sure if the failure of the sensor would lead to the car throwing a "I'm not going to work" fit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have now seen a newer one 2010 face lift 3.0l tdv6 75,000 miles one owner from new full landrover history , seems to be the better engine or more reliable?
And im guessing at this milage with a full history any niggeling bits would
Of been picked up and sorted.
The interior is much nicer in the face lift
So i may go with that one
I was told the 2007 over finch may have dpf issues with the low milage and only been used to drop kids iff at school never got a good motor way run?

Led, I'm glad you've seen an alternative. Some love them, but vehicles with additional bodywork can appear a bit 'look at me' but rather miss it altogether! They can date fast and if they get scuffed they look far worse than a standard vehicle. As Tim in Scotland says, beware anything non-standard for warranty and insurance issues
