ITS A MIRACLE!!!! Or is it???

Well, as previously posted I'd gave up and rang the auto electrician. He can't look at the car until Friday.

Anyway, Monday morning I ordered a new boot release at £35.

It's arrived today, so I thought I'd fit it and see what happens....

0.63 when the car is locked

0.01 when the car goes to sleep after 20 minutes

To make sure I've just opened the car again, locked it, and I'm now waiting for it to go to sleep again.

The switch when I pulled it off:

Car battery is just charging now, and hoping for a good result! 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE SIMPLE!

Ok.

Battery fully charged - 12.6 on the meter.

Jump into the car to try and start, nothing. Red battery light is on, HDC message etc.

Check the battery voltage, now reading 10.5.

Battery was replaced last year - but looking online now it seems like it's goosed? On Sunday I charged the battery and the car started and ran fine. Is the 12.6 too low?

Any ideas? 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

Charged the battery up.

Just managed to start the car, drove fine. Got home, turned off. Tried to start again, nothing. Dead battery again.

Looking like a new car battery is required. Is there something that could have killed the old one so quickly (purchased last year).

Oh, and I've managed to break the bonnet sensor so the bonnet thinks it's always open... 😡😡😡😡😡 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

Noooo - I've just ordered one of these boot switches after reading your success story the other day. Was hoping it would fix my rapidly discharging battery issue as well. I only bought my battery 18 months ago so will be pretty annoyed if the constant discharging has goosed it already. I know that lead acid batteries don't like standing with little charge in them...

Mine isn't quite as bad - it'll go a week or two between charges and I don't get the red light but I do get the 'Christmas Tree' warning lights which is a warning that I need to break out the charger when I get home!

Mate, sorry to see that you are still having problems.

The reading of 0.01Amps when the car goes to sleep is good. That should be quite normal, so I would say that replacing the boot switch has fixed the discharge problem. Thumbs Up
However it may be that the battery has been deep-discharged for too long or too often, so is struggling to supply the starting current needed. Lead acid batteries don't really like being absolutely flattened (discharged), as it can destroy them.
So I would assume that even though it's fairly new, you'd better replace it with another one. Big Cry

Yes the battery was my own fault.

When I had been testing for the discharge, I had disconnected the negative lead.

I left the car with the positive on, negative off, so I'm assuming that had something to do with it.

All is fine now after the new battery, and I have a boot where I can open the glass!!! It's never worked, lol 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)
