United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Sorry I did not reply sooner. I have been on holiday!

My car goes into the dealer tomorrow, so I will be able to report more when it has been there.

What happens is that the brakes are fine until you hold the brake on for a longer period, such as a long deceleration or manoeuvring on a slope. In that situation the brake servo seems to run out of vacuum. The brakes are still there, but you have to press very hard when there is no servo assistance. After a few moments of releasing the brake, servo assistance is restored. I think the vacuum pump has lost efficiency.

Well Black Bess has been into the local dealer for the recall. They fitted a new brake servo (they call it a booster) and some new pipework between servo and vacuum pump which incorporates a filter and return pipe to stop the engine oil coming through.

The brake problem seems to be cured, all for free and they even washed the car!

The first time she has been back to the dealer since they supplied her in 2008.

Thanks for the info Black Bess! I've ordered all the new parts now. Does anyone know if there are some sort of instruction how to remove the servo and does this job require a lot of disassembling to be done? Im most likely giving this job to a indie but I want to provide them all the help I can to speed up the job.

Too bad this recall was already done to my car so I'm paying all of this Sad so I'm guessing this problem will appear in the future once again. Or at least I'm not aware that these new part would be any different than those that were installed in the recall procedure. Correct me if I'm wrong Smile

Even for cars it's already been done on, if it hasn't fixed the problem, then in almost all cases, LR will carry it out free of charge.

But for changing the brake booster, it's pretty straight forward. Only tricky bit is getting the clip off the pin attached to the brake peddle. The rest of it is straight forward. I've got loads of photos to do a how to from when I did mine, just need time to do it! Bodsys Brake Bible

This gives you the pin and Spring clip, so you can see how you need to lever it to get it off.

A little update. So I received the parts for the job and reserved a time from LR service. But unfortunately I received RHD versions of the parts and my RRS is LHD.

So my question is can I use the vacuum line (LR018673) for LHD car and the master cylinder (LR014527). Are there physical differences? The parts I actually need would be LR018674 and LR014528 The brake booster seems to fit to both so thats ok.

Oh that is frustrating.

As you say, the booster is universal. I believe the master cylinder is handed, because when I bought my replacement, there was a LHD option available.

The pipes from the vacuum pump, I think, will also be handed because they are preformed 'hard plastic' so I do not think the RHD will fit on a LHD. I think you will need the correct version.

A small update for this case.

Just got the job done yesterday at LR dealer. The difference in the braking power is so huge it feels like I've never even had a booster lol. It feels so good now.

The total cost for the labor was 264€ or £228. Parts for the job were £345.

And yes the booster was universal. It fits for LHD and RHD. The master cylinder was different and the vacuum pipe were totally different in LHD. Half longer in measure and so on...

They also changed all of the brake fluid but that was cheap.
