Damaged door during recall work

So I took my Baby in for the following jobs (all under warranty)

1. Replace front and rear brake pads (as existing ones squeaking)
2. Replace tailgate hinges and realign tailgate.
3. Rectify noise in headlining.

They gave me a courtesy car for the four days they had mine and the service manager personally delivered my Baby home on the Friday evening (in the dark)

The following morning I discovered the rear passenger door was a different colour to the rest of the car and it had been fully resprayed (badly) in some sort of an attempt to hide damage. Also, the vehicle was literally covered in laquer overspray, feeling like sand paper. And finally the front passenger side wheel was severely scratched where the wrong size adapter was used to secure the wheel nuts.

They've offered to respray the "respray" in an attempt to improve the colour match.

My concerns are obvious, once resprayed will it fade at a different rate to the existing bodywork. Apart from my distrust in the the delership, I do have reservations about their offer.

Your thoughts and opinions are most welcome.

Get a new door and wheel, the car should have returned to you in better condition than you gave it to them after the recall work was done.

That's shocking Shocked

Have they told you how your car was damaged in the first place? Why did they not contact you when the damage first happened, rather than do a half arsed job of repairing it and dropping the car off in the dark?

I think I would be escalating this to the Dealer Principal or the dealerships head office.

It beggars belief that a franchised dealer wouldn't come clean and that they damage a customers car Evil or Very Mad

I've been in your position -

1. damaged wing not informed by dealer but resprayed as a goodwill gesture Confused

2. Damaged wing and rear panel after dropping off ramp - dealer apologised and repaired twice as first attempt was poor. I wanted a replacement as it was immaculate before but got nowhere although I did get 2 years approved warranty added Sad

I also know an ex LR technician who has told me appalling stories about customers cars being ragged on test drives - one ended up through a hedge and was repaired without customer being any wiser Shocked

Fitting dashcam, tracker and hopefully incontrol remote should stop lot of these appalling stories - I hope you get sorted and are happy with the end result Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Here comes the kicker....

The General Manager nor the Service Manager were aware of what had occurred. Apparently, one of the mechanics scratched the door while working on it and made a decision to get a mobile paint sprayer to blow it in quickly without informing his manager.

I've been in contact with Land Rover Australia and they're now overseeing the upcoming respray and a replacement wheel. MY 14.5 SE SDV6 Loire Blue. Silver roof. 22's.

Shocking Shocked

Few years ago round here a Jaguar xkr crashed through a wall and drove off. The police traced it to a Jag dealer and it turned out an employee had taken it for a spin to get his lunch and crashed. He had told nobody and they found it parked on site Evil or Very Mad

He was sacked and the customer got a new car so all ended well but it should never happen Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Muddy,
He damaged the wheel when removing/tightening the wheel nous.

I have no idea how he damaged the door. Perhaps he scratched with tool or reversed another car in to it, I Don't know - at this stage.

The part that disturbs me is that you were not notified. I accept that mistakes can be made , but now they have destroyed your trust. The fact that the mech did not tell the manager is a sign of poor organisation , employees should be able to report these issues without fear if the right corporate culture exists. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
