Leaking ARC bar

Has anyone had their rear ARC bar leak oil? Mine is, and that explained the red warning light coming on telling me to stop a few weeks ago as the reservoir was empty.

I had the reservoir topped up and the garage found the leak - light oil all over the underside rear. They told me its rare for this to happen and the remedy is well into four figures. Luckily I'm warrantied but annoyingly only 50% for ARC bar!!

Anyone had it happen?

I've just noticed my front one has started to leak.

If you do a search, you will find that its quite a common problem!.

Thanks Chris, following your suggestion I have searched this topic & it seems it could be a cheap O-rings replacement issue. So...I have e mailed the garage asking to check the O-rings before getting stuck into what is the expensive option!

Many thanks again, here's hoping Thumbs Up

You never know!

I did the same, but mines leaking from the unit itself so a replacement for me!

Hopefully it's a cheap fix for you

Yep, mine was noticed when car was serviced. 1500 quid for the rear unit replacement. Thankfully under warranty. 2010 TDV8

Mine too. 2010MY. Dealer picked it on service, fortunately just before "approved used" warranty ran out.

I think I was told it was something to do with poor O rings on original, improved on later versions.

My rear bar was replaced three or four years ago. Thankfully under warranty at the time. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks all, it seems to be rather more common than I thought... Cross fingers for simple O-rings as I'm only 50% covered on ARC bars Sad

My 2010 MY started leaking when the car was 5 years (55k miles) old and replaced.

I have read that experienced tech's are able to replace the unit by raising the body work by a few inches avoiding an expensive full body lift.

My front was replaced last year £1600, my rear was reported to be weeping when it had its mot in march. When booked in to the dealers for the service and cambelt and for the investigation they advised me to leave it for a year or so. There reply was they've had many in with much more of a leak than i had and not to worry about it.

Where was it weeping from? If the pipe connections then it might be a simple and cheap fix. Leaving it might end up causing damage that does require a bar to be replaced. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Not sure think it was where the ARB entered the actuator, as it was the Actuator that had a fine mist of oil on it. Didnt actually see it for myself.

Hi folks,
Not on very often as I have my 2010 RR Sport 3.6 TDV8 for 5 1/2 years with no major problems/costs. Very Happy The motor has just passed mot again with no work required. Razz The independent land rover dealer pointed out I had a minor oil leak/weep from the rear arc bar but did not think it would be repaired under warranty. I have land rover extended warranty and was wondering if anyone else has managed to get the repair carried out under warranty.
Cheers Alex
