How to detect a Turbo may be on its way out ?

Hello Forum,

Ive a 2008 RRS with 74K on the clock and of late there is a little more whizzing noise coming from the engine in the past few days. I've heard that turbos are a "Body Off" the chassis job and wondered if anyone could give me anything to look for / listen for to see if its the turbo's or a water pump or a belt etc ? To be fair it doesn't sound like a slipping belt.

No smoke coming from exhaust, just a slightly louder whizzing whirring noise than normal from the engine at low to medium revs in neutral. in drive the noise is only really noticeable at low speed.

Any thoughts at all ?

Ive just had my turbo changed on my 2.7 v6 as it goes, but luckily i had an oil leak coming from a pipe from the turbo running to the engine so i took it in and they determined it was turbo. They said to just monitor it but i didnt want to chance it so had it done. He said its hard to tell, one major thing to look for is lag when you put your foot to the floor does it take longer than usual to get that 'back in the seat' motion'. As i had noticed this also. Check oil levels aswel. If you're losing oil it could be going into the turbo n f***in stuff up! Hope this helps
