I don't understand why you are defending them. You have the patience of a saint ... Or ... You are being taken for a mug and not yet realised. They are stringing you on mate, all due respect to you, but five weeks?? I think they are having a laugh at your expense.
Cut your losses and reverse the deal. Seriously.

Hi,

Finally been told the engine is beyond repair.. which is what i expected after all your comments to be honest.

I have contacted the finance company and made them aware of whats going on and asked them to tell me where i stand legally as the engine went after only 7 weeks of ownership and within the 3 month warranty period.

The garagre i bough th car from have said they will try and source anther engine but i know they will try and do it on the cheap just to get me out the door.

If i got a reconditioned engine installed by a Land rover specialist and not his garage i may keep the car. as long as it came with a 12 month warranty.

the finance company are looking into it and I may be able to hand the car back under the sale of goods act.

any advice is greatly appreciated Smile

I think it impossible for them to claim acceptance under these circumstances so I'd say you do have the right to a full refund. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I agree i probably would be able to get a refund.
But if they offer to put a reconditioned engine in and give me a warranty should i accept that ?
I could end up with a better engine than what i started with .....

Dave.

I've been there, done that, reconned engine and all , not a Range Rover but another sports car ... Over a 12 week period, they replaced the engine twice because the reconned unit they fitted was rotten as well. I persevered because I was so desperate to keep the car, I was blind to the potential problems. After the 3rd engine was fitted, I sold the car.

At this point the garage have spent so much time and money they want rid as well, and they'll source a cheaper engine. Remember, they probably can't claim all the costs back even off insurance, as the insurance will have a predetermined cost and labour cost and it sounds like they have exceeded that. So they are not going to spend premium £. It comes with a warranty perhaps but do you really want the potential of it having issues time and time again?

And frankly, given the story you have told, they shouldn't be so lucky to get your business. I'd get a refund, turn your back and never deal with them ever.
And go find a new RR!

I sent an email to the garage asking..

1, where would they get the engine ? i would want a fully reconditioned engine with a 12 month warranty
2, who would install the engine ? as i know you dont have LR technicians and i want it fitted correctly
3, how long would it take ? I have seen on the internet that it should take no more than 8 working days from start to finish to get the job done and there are a lot of companies out there who can offer the full service ( if anyone has experience of a north east specialist who does this can you please let me know )

I also said that I am in contact with the finance company and if he cannot fix reapir the car correctly I will seek a refund.

im just waiting to see what he comes back with....

PS,

I do love the car and would be sad to see it go , and there is no guarantee the next one i bought wouldn thave problems , which is why im hoping he can provide a quality repair.

In the 7 weeks i had it i spent quite a bit of money on it myself.. getting all the wheels refinished, bumpers color coded, new chrome badges all round, color coded wing mirrors, new matts , new front Grille, running boards powder coated...etc... be a shame to throw that money away.

and you may not, and you have no form of history with the engine potentially.

Having read it all I would be inclined to cut your losses, and get a full refund. - By the tiem you have the car back the 3 month warranty has expired, any new purchase, I would insist or trade up to a longer warranty,

I would insist on a 12 month warranty with a reconditioned engine , and he said i can extend my warranty on the car for 250 pounds to 12 months.

Hi all,

Just an update...

I spoke to garage where i bought the car this morning and apparantly the car is bookend into Les Potts "Land Rover Specialist Sunderland" Monday morning and is going to get a replacement engine , I have been told its costing him 5K but not exaclty what is getting done to the car... Less Potts looks like a top notch Gargage ( the reviews I have read say he is better than a LR dealership) and will give a 12 month warranty on his work , I assume they are going to put a refurbsihed engine in , exactly what standard is has been refurbished to im not sure as of yet, I have to call back monday to find out.

I have also spoke to the finance company to see if i can hand the car back and have been told that October last year new rules came into effect and that after 4 weeks you cannot just hand a car back. As the garage is NOW ( after 7 weeks) trying to make a satisfactory repair.. it might make it harder for me to give it back, they are looking into my case for me and trying to find out eactly were i stand and what my options are etc. TBH the finance company have been pretty good so far and are willing to fight my corner. But now that the garage I bought the car from seem to be doing their best to fix the car handing it back may become slightly harder.

I know the finance company want me to be happy with the car so I will keep making payments , and the garage want me to keep the car as they want shot of it.

Is there anyone impartial I could speak to who had had nohting to gain either way ? so i know exactly where i stand. anyone been in a similar situation themself ?

How long have they now had the vehicle?

I drove the car for 6 weeks , and they have now had it for 6 1/2 weks.

they did supply me with a car to use as soon as mine broke down

no date was ever given as to exactly how long the repair would take as they spent quite a long time stripping it down / Investigating the damage and waiting on parts , every time i would call i was told they were either stripping down, waiting on parts or a land rover specialist to come to the garage.
