Auto Start Stop

Evening all, is there any way to turn off the auto start stop by default? I find it a massive pain in the ass.

As far as I know you can only turn it off on each journey but I may be wrong. I just don't press the brake as hard when i'm stopped then it doesn't do it. 16 model year yulong white autobiography

I don't know why anybody would want to? What's the issue as I seriously don't have any problem - in fact I like the fact that I'm saving fuel when stationary.

And for those times you don't want it to work, either press the button or adjust your brake pressure accordingly!

Before I had the car I thought it would drive me silly: What's the point of Stop/Start in a 550 BHP 5L supercharged V8 for Christ's sake?

Now, approaching 15k miles, I think it works very well. What's wrong with it? As posted, being linked to the brake predal pressure you can use it or not at will, with engine stopped at traffic lights can start the engine when you see the lights changing, if you are in command shift having a bit of fun it doesn't activate, ...

The only thing that does sometimes get to me is that when stopped in traffic and you wish to lift off the brake pedal if you're blinding the person behind without the engine starting is the need to shift into neutral. I wish this cold be done by pulling both command shift paddles or similar.

I am also slowly starting to use it rather then turning it off. I like the way it turn the engine off and then when you take the seat belt off, also turns off the ignition.

Easy way not to blind those following you by keeping your foot on the foot brake........... put the selector into N, engage the EPB and take your foot off the brake and the engine will stay stopped until you select D again. OK it takes a bit of practice with the timing but it works. I learned this trick with it when I had the Evoque and it works in the RRS2 too. I also thought I would reach for the off switch at every opportunity but now I never bother, as said by philmw it works really well and you do save some fuel using it............. and when I drive my defender into town I keep stalling it at the lights now I'm so used to the Stop/Start! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

This annoys the living daylights out of me.

Often, when I stop, I need to make a note of mileage on my biz miles sheet. That liver on the back seat, and to get to it I have to undo the seat belt - and then the bl**dy car turns itself off before I have made a note of the mileage. Then I have to turn it back on and wait for the boot up sequence to finally end. It truly is the single most annoying feature for me. If I want to turn the car off, all I have to do is press a button, I don't want, need, or desire the software to decide to do it for me.

Same thing if I want to undo the seat belt to turn completely around to see where I am reversing. Bl**dy annoying. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Why don't you just use the InControl app for all your journey and mileage data?

Personally the auto stop/start drives me nuts principally because occasionally when I put the car into reverse, the engine stops and does not restart. I then have to put the car in Park and restart the engine on the button. The trouble is that this is intermittent and I have not been able to demonstrate the problem to my dealer. I have taken to switching the auto stop/start off before I put the gearbox into reverse. I know that auto stop/start is now fitted to most new cars but as far as I'm concerned it's not an answer to any question I asked

Yes it can be disabled. I have read on US Forum how this can be done. They say you simply have to disconnect the positive terminal on the small battery behind the right hand rear panel. Have I done it No as the auto start stop does not a annoy me and besides I have a finger that can push buttons if required. Thumbs Up

Because I will simply forget if I don't do it at the end of a journey, that is my routine and dammed if I see why some stupid software should make me change it. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
