Good afternoon. I am looking at my tow bar electrics as I am looking into buying a tow bar. My neighbour connected his trailer to see if my electrics were connected but no power was being received by the trailer.

I have since had the RR up on some ramps while I tried to locate any connections. I have found three loose connectors above the left side exhaust stashed in a fashion. These are damp as to be expected but not connected to anything.

I also have no fuse box in the area reserved for jack etc... so I have taken off the panel on the left hand side of the boot space and there are also two loose connectors in there. I am presuming those two go to two that I have found hanging. I have attached some pics for comment. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Has it got twin sockets or just the standard 7 pin 12N electrics (black cover on socket)?

I bought the genuine LR electric kit for 12S and 12N and on the system you had two plugs that connected to the dedicated plugs behind the left rear trim (they look like the two in your pic). There is two earthing wires built into the kit loom that go to the earthing points behind that trim.
Then there two cables (one for either side) rear light unit. The way they connect is you remove the female plug from the back of the light unit, and plug that female onto the corresponding male from the wiring kit. The female from the wiring kit then plugs onto your lighting unit. This gives you all the trailer lighting features.
Its hard to tell from that picture if the connectors depicted are the ones that go through the grommet and up to the dedicated connectors. Take a rear light unit out and see how much spaghetti and how many connectors are there. If the towing harness is wired into the lights, there will be a plug on your light unit, and then a further two pairs of connectors.

I will have a look tomorrow if it stops raining and let you know I didn't take the full trim off but I will investigate. I am hoping it is and easy fix.

Right.... I have taken the light off and the trim inside the boot. Looking at it I am thinking I only have half of the setup. I have the tow bar end with the two connections for the trailer. The loom that connects the this part to the car is missing. I am guessing you cannot buy the loom I need on it's own and it will come part of a complete kit. I will give the LR land rover a dealer a call to price the part....

It's not too hard to wire this up yourself. I bought some NON INSULATED 6.3mm SPADE MALE TERMINALS CONNECTORS x 10 (LONG) and some NON INSULATED 2.8mm SPADE MALE TERMINALS CONNECTORS x 10 (long) from Ebay and then tested each wire in the two plugs you have already identified behind the nearside boot panel. I can't remember which connections are which but make sure you use a bulb to check them as a multimeter does not give the best results. Use the 6.3 terminals for the big wires and the 2.8mm for the smaller ones, solder them up and insert them into the plugs. Tape them up to prevent them shaking out and you're done

A jolly up in the North East would be perfect right now Gary but I am afraid the Mrs wouldn't be happy as the youngest is teething like you wouldn't believe bless him.

Update... I bit the bullet and went to Duckworths yesterday in Market Rasen, Lincs. The loom was £130. I removed the rear bumper etc for better access and to give everything a good clean as it was really filthy. I fitted the loom myself and it took about 2 hours. I had to remove the partial loom that was already fitted which took and extra 20 minutes. All tested and working.

Get it coded in to your car as well though, because it gives extra functions. Bodsy (Ian) can do that for you.
