Front Propshaft

Ok lads looking for some help here as i have googled this to death and also asked on other forums but getting nowhere my front prop shaft going into the diff is really badly grinding and no reverse drive, is this a easy fix with new prop. the vehicle is a 2006 sport auto with 74k on the clock i have already done new air compressor two front wheel bearings new disks all round, new rear brake caliper 4 new tyres and its starting to get me down it does not lead a hard life as i work offshore so i only drive it two weeks a month

Ray, I have never had a failure like that in 10 years Confused

Have you had the covers off and physically checked it?

thought it was the driver side drive shaft but when i jacked it up and turned the wheel by hand the noise was coming from underneath so after going under for a look the prop bit that goes into diff is mangled

The good news is, it is an easy fix.

No idea how it has failed though. At least it was easy enough to diagnose Thumbs Up

It sounds like it needs a new prop regardless, but just give it a look over to see if ere are any indications of why it failed...

Thanks for fixing the problem so quick Mike, think I will have to stay offshore to avoid the wife after she had to raid her piggy bank lol, I cant understand why such a nice vehicle with a long 4x4 history can do this to a diff when it only has 74 K on the clock glad I was not in the Sahara Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

It looks as ough someone has had something to do with the diff at some point in its life

The axle tube had been revealed with something other than what LR use, as well as the bolt for the tube mounting having being fitted the wrong way

It's almost as though the diff had been run without oil, though there was still a very small dribble in the bottom of the diff casing...
