Awaiting the verdict

Well Lorek is in at LR Wakefield and i'm awaiting some verdicts.
Currently, the drivers door doesn't lock and the suspension has an intermittent fault where i get 'normal height only available' on the dash. Turning it off and back on again cures it of the suspension issue and i can change the height again. Every time.

I'm hoping that both of those problems are failures of parts so they're covered by my warranty direct policy and that it pays out quickly and is straight forward.

Will report back on all counts... after a battery last weekend (which annoyingly doesn't fit properly because it's slightly wider at the bottom than the old one - so I cant get the strap on as the threaded hole is partially covered by the battery), it's going to be an expensive do!

So here's the shout...

The door isn't locking because it needs a new latch, which contains the broken actuator.
Over 400 squids plus VAT in total.

The intermittent suspension fault is due to a compressor failure, which is more expensive than the first one.

WD asked the dealer for MOT cert, last service invoice and service history. The only one of those they had was the service book and a pic of the mileage from the dash. WD accepted this and authorised both jobs, LR had both parts in stock and i'm getting it back in the morning.

Well done to both Guy Salmon Sytner LR Wakefield, and Warranty Direct for making that fairly painless. I say fairly because LR aren't an approved repairer, and so I will have to pay for it and then be paid back by WD, which will be quite a sting for the amount, but i'm just pleased it's all sorted and I'll get it back less the excess.

After these jobs, a battery last weekend, a new boot latch after that failed, here's hoping that it behaves for a while!

You'll see several posts on here about batteries.

I think you'll find the general view is that these cars are pretty sensitive to non-identical batteries which can lead to fried alternators and other gliches.

I'd get an original spec. unit fitted.

£400 + VAT for a door latch? Shocked

The part retails at £90 + VAT. And it's an hour to fit. That's a huge hourly rate Neutral

I hate to think what they quoted for the compressor...

No need for a Genuine battery, just as long as it's a good one. (Recommended option: https://www.tayna.co.uk/EA1000-Exide-Premi...-7488.html) Thumbs Up

OE alternators (Denso) are a must, however (but it still doesn't have to be LR branded, of course). Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
