Jeep?

Am over in Donegal for a couple of weeks and people over here keep referring to my RRS as a "Jeep" Shocked

I didn't buy an RRS to be associated with a bit of American toot, however capable it may be, so not too impressed.

Anyone else's RRS get called a jeep?

Happens frequently - it's a bit like all vacuum cleaners being called Hoovers or Dysons. Jeep has become the generic term for a 4x4 vehicle. Use of a vacuum cleaner has ven become a verb - to do the Hoovering! Must p*ss off other manufacturers like our cars being called Jeeps hacks us off 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Doesn't bother me too much - after all the original Land Rover was produced following WW2 Jeep exposure.

Mine is referred to as "truck" by me quite often at home.

It's usually called much worse when yet another problem rears its head! Censored

One thing that does bug me is people using "theory" when they should use "hypothesis". Misuse of the apostrophe is also annoying. Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The first Land Rovers were based on the Jeep "idea" so in a way it's true. I think though that most 4x4's are given generic names such as "Jeep" and "truck".

My children call any 4x4 I own a "Monster Truck" but I suppose they are big vehicles to a child...

Snap! Truck is used regularly, although 'Jeep' not so often LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

Slight hijack here, but it's in the theme... Embarassed

I was always of the opinion that the original Range Rover was the first "SUV" as has been stated many times in the press both here and across the pond...

However it would seem the Beeb have a different opinion now and that the Jeep Cherokee was the first:

Even though it arrived on the scene a decade after the Range Rover... I won't mention the Mercedes G wagen either Whistle

What do you all think?

Oh and mine Sport is also often referred to as a truck or just simply a car. Thankfully not a Jeep Very Happy

Just tried to follow that link but the BBC won't let me because it's not funded by the licence fee. Bizarre.

The Range Rover wasn't a Sports Utility Vehicle. It was a luxury utility vehicle. It was seen more as a way for wealthier land owners to travel around both their land (off road) and the country (on road) in one vehicle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I don't think I have ever heard of my Defender being refered to as a "Jeep", but the various Sports' FullFats, Evoques, Discos and Freelanders I've owned over the years were regularly called Jeeps. Most of the people who call my other cars Jeeps nearly always call the Defender a Land Rover! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Mine was called a jeep for a short while until my 4yr old nephew called it a Truck - so that has stuck. Silver 2007 TDV8
