Newbie

Hi all,

Newbie to the forum, I'm currently considering buying a RRS, I've narrowed it down to a facelift version car as I prefer the interior over the earlier models.

My question is should I go for the TDV8 or the 5.0 supercharged? I currently have an 2008 Impreza STI hatchback so I'm use to having a car with plenty of power on tap, I only do short journeys (approx six mile a day round trip for work) so fuel consumption not really an issue and as I only get around 15-20 MPG from the Scooby I'm use to not passing many petrol stations Laughing

My budget is around the 25k mark, so your input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance
Carl

Hi Carl,
Welcome to the site. Thumbs Up
If you are only doing that sort of mileage, then i would go supercharged. Smile
Make sure you check out our advice on what to look out for when buying a RRS. It might save you a few £££'s in the long run. Also make sure you get a bullet proof warranty. These vehicles are costly to repair should things go wrong. Good luck with your search. Thumbs Up

Get the Supercharged one. And a decent battery conditioner. Short journeys can be hard on the battery.

The TDV8 appears to be a bit prone to turbo issues, sadly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have one of these - with an adaptor you can buy from this forum - plug it in the back of the Sport ( towing sockets ) connect to charger & plug into the electric - charges your RRS without opening bonnet or removing battery.

Supercharged. A life of short journeys in my TDV6 has proven petrol to be the better option and, let's face it, you only live once. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Would the CTEK stll be able to do its thing plugged into the cigarette power outlet in the boot if you don't have towing sockets?

Only if you remove the relay for the sockets and hard wire them to be live all the time.
Why not use the comfort lead directly on the battery? makes it easier to connect/disconnect that messing about with the 12v sockets in the car. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks - that should do the trick, especially if I got the extension so I could leave the charger in the house (no garage) Thumbs Up

its the lead that comes with the ctek chargers and allows you to keep the lead connected to the battery, but have a waterproof connector elsewhere to make it easier for you to connect without having to open the bonnet. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible
