United States 2009 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
Starting issues 09 RRSC

I have been doing some digging around having fallen foul of the innocuous starter tick and no crank.

Had the ECU replaced due to water ingress and also a new battery a few weeks ago. However on a daily basis i find when i go to crank the engine I get the starter Tick and no crank. I think I may have found the issue but want to see if you guys have any thoughts. I have moved the Shifter from park to drive back and fourth a few times with foot on brake and key in the on position. Returning it to Park I then turn the ignition switch and she will crank.

On the LM322 I owned this was down to a bad xyz switch. I understand on the ZF6HP26 transmission that this is internal. My thoughts are could the internal switch be contaminated? I am approaching the 80K mark and I plan on doing the trans flush and filter change.

Second thought is that the Internal shift assembly may have some issues and wondering if the transmission interlock signals emanate from there? I can live with this short term but I have little doubt that this will fail completely shortly when I am in the middle of no where.

I have also looked around on Topix and have found nothing of any real help.

No Car will not start in Neutral you have to go through the shift sequence before she will crank. I am wondering if there my be a link between the trans filter and flush that is looming. Although the transmission is shifting fine and operates smoothly in all ranges. I have my doubts that the Starter is at fault as I have already gone through the Denso Starter diagnostic routine as specified by Land Rover on Topix.

I wonder if the shifting is a preamble and the car eventually would start anyway in which case a starter may be the remedy. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
