2005 RRS 2.7 Diesel self revving

Hi all I have trawled the old posts and can't see an answer to this problem.

On a RRS 2005 TDV6 2.7 it self revs it surges up and down repeatedly after its run for a while on idle. It affects the drive as occasionally it takes off like a scalded cat without warning which is a bit scary.

Blanked EGR valves, cleared codes.
Did flush of Auto box and refil (new filter)
Changed diesel filter, replaced coolant temperature sensor (this improved things a bit)
Removed and cleaned EGR valves and cleaned out and refitted.
New alternator, new battery. Lots of codes but nothing related to engine or gearbox.
Checked charge air pipes no signs of splits or loose clamps.
Replaced glow plugs as a matter of course due to age of car.

The temperature gauge goes off each time the fault occurs

Any ideas please .
Thanks

Does it do this when you give it a rev?

Hi thanks for replying, yes if you blip the throttle sometimes it can provoke it into doing its party trick.

Oil temperature sensor at a guess. If you looked at the live values, it probably shows -30 or similar. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

hi thank you for your reply, I will get the code reader on and confirm that. Any idea where the sensor is located?

Thank you all for responding

My vid was of my own car with a faulty oil temp sensor. Was not nice to drive like that

The sensor is around £25, and lives in the side of the sump. It can be changed without draining the oil, but be prepared to to drain all 6 litres, just in case Thumbs Up

Thanks for your help I will give the sensor a try its not a bad price. It's due an oil change soon anyway so I will do that at the same time. I will come back and let you know if this fixes it

Thank you to everyone who offered help and advice.
Fitted new oil temperature sensor two days ago and the car is 99% better. The fault was intermittent but I feel it's fixed this time.

Still fixed so far and driving better than it has in ages.
It turns out the odd clunk I get from the transmission wasn't related it still does that, but engine and driving much better overall

Are you sure the odd clunk is not just the drivers seat moving, this can fool you into thinking its a transmission clunk when you pull away. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

My RRS HSE does something recently similar to this, when I drive it, every now and then the revs jump up and down by about 400rpm I assume it the gearbox fluid starting to breakdown or not? About to get into a sport

It doesn't hurt to replace the fluid, I did my one with a modified sump and filter at the same time.
My latest issue is a coolant leak somewhere on the left hand side just under the bumper (I think it's a remote thermostat) that looks like the next thing

Hello,

It seems I´m having same kind of self revving issues when I step off the gas pedal. Can someone verify if the sensor is this 1359056 ? And another thing. Can it be changed without lifting the car up?
