JLR security loophole solution.

Hiya All
For those that don't know me, I own and Manage a Company called Blackbox Solutions Ltd (BBS) which is based in Cyprus.
For nearly 20 Years we have specialised exclusively in producing a range of Diagnostic equipment for all Land Rover Vehicles.
To do this we have become complete experts at understanding Land Rovers communication protocols and how thay work at the very lowest level. As a result, many Years ago now, we introduced the First ever diagnostic equipment beyond Dealers OEM equipment and quickly thereafter introduced CCF Editing for all CAN BUS vehicles which even today Land Rover dealers cannot do, all ECU flashing and much much more. and for the record, BBS has been a sponsor of this site for many years Thumbs Up

Almost 2 years ago, when this vunerability of allowing thieves to easily learn new Keys to the Vehicles Keyless Vehicle Modules, BMW being the first targetted became public new's, We recognised that despite Land Rovers Official self serving denial, quoting this as a BMW only problem, that in fact their vehicles were equally succeptible to the same problem and it was only a matter of time before thefts of JLRs by this process gained media attention. Sure enough as we can all clearly now see, Sadly, We were certainly not wrong in our prediction as a growing number of threads on this forum and media news indicate.

The good news is that along with our prediction, and with BBS possessing the relevent knowledge, understanding and expertise, we also started development on a small, reletively inexpensive device we call the CAN-LOCK that is very specifically designed to totally and absolutely protect all Vehicles with Keyless Entry from this obvious vunerability.

The CAN-LOCK magically make the Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM) simply dissapear from even Land Rovers own SDD equipment at a very base level, which you can see for yourself on this short You Tube demo video made using my own 2010 Bali Blue RRS with keyless entry.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-deKrZBndCU

But of course this vunerability also affects the latest vehicles too, so here is another short video showing a brand new, not even had number plates fitted yet, L405 being equally protected by the CAN-LOCK.

As of but a few hours ago, the CAN-Lock became available for purchase with an introductary discount offer which i have posted details about on this thread

I would be quite happy to answer any questions.

ATB

Colin

Thanks Colin,
What an interesting post! I almost wish my RRS was sufficiently modern to need one of those. No doubt owners of model years affected will be beating a path to your door. They would be daft not to.
Well done. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Is this an easy DIY fit as you do not show where or how to fit it. Looks good.

Thanks Paddi:
I just hope those this Keyless start type security vunerability affects and who would benefit from the CAN-LOCK the most get to learn about its availability.

Hiya nigel52:
It is by no means difficult or complex to DIY fit the CAN-LOCK and of course it comes complete with detailed fitting instructions.

But of course you can always get someone else like an Auto Electricians to fit it for you.

As for the "Where to fit it", as the Video states it can be fitted/hidden almost anywhere in the vehicle the Owner/Fitter chooses, the point being that only the owner would know where it is, so they can disconnect it in the event that they want to allow someone to program a new Key or acess the Keyless Vehicle Module.

Thanks Colin- well I guess if I can clean a MAF sensor and fit a tuning box to a FL2 common rail, hopefully I can do this.

regards
Nigel

I have purchased one of these and understand how the CAN-LOCK should be fitted and have the online instructions. However, the key is fitting it in such a way as not to be too obvious. There is an obvious and easy place it can be fitted but not one I think is secure enough as too visible. (I don't want to give details publicly of how and where it should be fitted) However, if anyone has fitted one to a 2011 TDV6 model I would be interested in where they cut in to the CAN BUS. Perhaps this is better done by PM.

I'm wondering where we would stand on warranty if this was DIY fitted.
Will it become an approved modification or be regarded like the after market track star?
We know how fussy JLR now are on warranty issues.

Personally I have bought one as I want to keep my RRS. Just need someone to PM me with the best place to cut in to the loom that is easy to get at and not too obvious. RRS 2011 model. Thanks.
