Key Fob Battery?

Hi,

I've picked my 2005 RRS yesterday and it's great. However, the spare key remote doesn't work / won't charge. I'm sure I read a thread on here about a cheap fix for this and avoiding a trip to the dealer, but I've searched and can't find it.
Is there an other option apart from getting a new key and reprogram? (Or trying to solder a new battery in myself, which I'd probably cock up...)

Cheers,
Pete

I replaced the battery in my spare fob, hardest bit was spliting the key open... Battery is a rechargeable cell thats soldered onto the pcb, and wasnt too hard to change.. If you have a soldering iron and a desolder toolcgive it a go ! 5 quid for the battery and some superglue to put it back together Cool Why?.. Because i can....

What doesn't work? Willmitnstart the car, if so you need to leave it in the ignition for around 7mns for it to re sync with the car, will take a while to charge I would have thought. If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

My key will start the car. I have been using it to try and get it to charge but no joy. I may have a go at replacing the battery to try and avoid having to buy a new key!

Followed the battery replacement thread on D3 site and saved $900 on two new keys.

Bought:
2 casings on ebay at $50,
2 batteries at $24
1 soldering iron at $14

All up $88 for two fixed keys (hardest part is opening the old ones).

Dealer quoted $395 for blank, $66 for pairing + unknown for key cut = min $461 per key.

Interestingly, when I opened one of the keys that wasn't working and just used the PCB, it worked again! I suspect there is a solder fault on the battery terminal anyway - thought I'd replace battery while I'm at it! Thumbs Up RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Need to replace the rechargeable battery in keyfob

Changing the rechargeable battery usually fixes a non working key fob, just done the one on the wife's freelander2 which is very similar, so the method is the same, see my video of doing it in the link below, or if that doesn't work try searching on Google or youtube for "comeinhandynow"
