Can you soften RRS 2012 suspension?

Hi there,
Please can someone clarify if it is possible to soften the suspension on a 2012 RRS from its standard setting? if so please also let me know how to do this?

The reason I ask is that a friend of mine thinks that you can although he didn't know if it was an onboard setting or a bolt on mod?
Many thanks

I don't think it is possible tbh. Do you find it too hard? You could fit L/R's recommended size 19" wheel and tyre package, which gives you a bigger sidewall in the tyre. This with be a softer ride.

No iit's not the 22"s altho obviously it is a slightly harder ride, I was told it's possible so thought I'd ask? If you've got it, spend it!

It WILL be the 22"s Wink .....as Ady say, stick some 19" on and the ride will be transformed. I never found my MY12 a harsh ride, even on standard fit 20"s. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

got to be honest I find our MY12 rides beautifully on the standard 20"s... that being said my car is running 295/35/20 so by comparison the RRS may as well be a Rolls!! Rolling with laughter

apologies I re-read that and it does seem a little weird Whistle !! The RRS is running standard 20"wheel/tyre combo, it's my car (a Mustang) that's on the 295/30/20s Laughing

I'm on factory 20"s, and I noticed a significant improvement in ride quality when I swapped the Conti's for Pirelli Scorpians. Unfortunately that also came with a corresponding drop in handling - it felt more like a go-kart on Conti's, whilst Pirellis feel more more twitchy near the limit. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Having come from an E Class AMG to an RRS 2012 I have always had issues with the ride, changing to 22's hasn't changed that, I test drove the new RR recently and that was really refined and possibly just a case that it was more my style, that said if a Bentley Continental GT can waft along beautifully on 22's with air suspension why can't my RRS, hence my original question and so was worth exploring, clearly the answer is no so thank you for that info Thumbs Up If you've got it, spend it!

Your RRS was designed to run on wheels no greater than 20 in diameter with a sidewall depth chosen to give a good compromise between ride, handling and off road ability. If you then run it on 22in wheels with shorter sidewalls that are designed for road only use you shouldn't blame the RRS.

The RRS is a hugely capable off road vehicle that happens to work well on tarmac - it's a Discovery 3 underneath, after all and that runs a 55 sidewall on 19in rims. The Bentley is a focussed luxury saloon. A specific requirement with a specific tyre choice. I bet if you put the Bentley on smaller rims with deeper sidewalls it would feel horrible.

The RRS is a 2.5 tonne 4x4. It suffers the compromises associated with being a 2.5 tonne 4x4 - the fact that it is as good on road as it is is a testament to the engineering team.

Rolling Eyes 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thats an important point you make RRSTDV8, I only asked the question regarding the air suspension and the ability to soften the ride, then the mention of 22's hijacked this thread and has become a distraction, since purchasing my RRS from new 2 years ago I always thought the ride was a little harsh, I think that is due to points you have stated and others, like short wheel base etc etc etc.
The answer is no to my original question and I except that, as I've also stated the 22's do marginally increase a harder ride but its to small for me personally to want to return to 20'S Thumbs Up
Big thanks for clarifying my question and sorry we went off tack with the age old 22's debate Whistle If you've got it, spend it!

I know this isn't a thread about 20" v 22" wheels but I have just taken 22" wheels off my MY14 ex demo and replaced with 20" wheels and Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres.

What a transformation.

It now feels like a £75k luxury car not a £15k Mini Cooper .... And I am now getting full benefit from the expensive sound system upgrade as the road noise is so much lower. MY2010 TDV8 purchased Jan 2017
MY14 HSE Dynamic 3.0 SDV6 sold Sept 2015
MY 2010 TDV8 sold April 2014
MY 2007 V6 HSE sold July 2013
