Removable tow bar - Light Duty?

I have one of the removable tow bars - but read on one of the forums that this is considered 'light duty'. What is not so clear to me is what is considered light or heavy duty towing? But it has worried me some!

I'm towing a Brian James 3.5 Ton transporter trailer which I guess usually weighs 2.5 Ton when loaded.

I spoke to the main dealer and they said my tow bar is rated for 3.5 Ton and is fine for the trailer. They said the Heavy Duty tow bar is for 'professional' towing - all day every day. But this seems at odds with what I've read!

The internet would have you believe my tow bar is barely suitable for pulling skins off rice puddings!

I just don't know what / who to believe! I definitely don't want my trailer parting company - but I don't tow regularly enough to warrant the cost 'HD' bar if it's not necessary. Since reading about it, I've been towing with my Defender instead (but would rather be in the RR).

Si

I towed twin wheel caravan, Brian James race shuttle and a plant trailer. Only issue I found was that the bar worked down over large mileage but if you want secure, the heavy duty version with bolt on legs is the best version 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈

It's not a question of can you tow regularly with the removal bar, it's a question of should you do so. People can and do (see above) but LR say you shouldn't. If you tow a heavy trailer every weekend then you should fit the HD bar according to LR. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have both types of detachable tow bar and tow many different things from horse floats, bike trailers, agg trailers to heavy (4 tonne) boat trailer from a compound to the launche ramp plus I have just purchased a large caravan.
No issues from my end, hitch fits nice and snug (both of them), I always lock it and remove the key and have full confidence in the engineering.
